DUX Delivery Scenario

DUX Deliveries is a large company in the package delivery industry that has recently encountered some performance issues. They have approached your Human Resource Development (HRD) team to ask for some advice to address these issues. As an HRD consulting firm, your team conducted a needs assessment by surveying employees and management, conducting interviews of key senior personnel, as well as looking at performance measures such as package delivery statistics, turnover rates of employees, and employee exit interviews. Some of the key findings include the following:

• Delivery drivers complained about the inefficient way the trucks are loaded, making it hard to identify which package belongs at which stop.

• Sorting, packing, and delivery employees reported they are short staffed, and pressured to perform without adequate guidance.

• Employee turnover rates are on the rise amongst drivers.

• Package delivery times are not meeting the ideal of the company mission statement, and are far worse than the competition.

• Complaints surfaced regarding “bad management” and “poor communication” across all levels of employees surveyed.

• Lack of career advancement opportunities were noted in exit interviews of departing employees.

• Senior management reports that middle management is not keeping their departments properly staffed. They are concerned that customers are losing faith in the company to deliver packages on time. • Middle managers complained that they do not have the budget to purchase software that would make their packers’ and delivery drivers’ jobs more efficient.
