Suggested format/structure for your Essay *The usual structure for a short essay (or presentation) would be to use the 3 part form... 1. Introduction - You tell them what you will tell them (one or more paragraphs) 2. Body - You tell them (several paragraphs) 3. Conclusion - You tell them what you told them (one or more paragraphs) *You can pick any chapter /topic ...but for example, if you chose Ch. 17 “Romantic Piano Music ”... Intro - My suggestion would be to start out writing about The Romantic Era in general. During this period, there was a special art “movement” that happened in all the arts. So you c ould mention visual artists like famous painters and also famous writers from this period... (Read the Prelude pages 162 -165, before Chapter 16) - Be sure to explain the artist's influences, forms, styles, and/or subjects. Body - Then of course mention the famous music composers from this period, specifically the two music composers featured in Chapte r 17... Include t heir biographical information, how the textbook compares/contrasts the two of them, and of course their different styles in music, specifically for piano. Conclusion - You should again mention the art "'movement" in The Romantic Period, a nd the great connection between/amongst artists of all genres : painters, writers, musicians etc... Then explain how Liszt and Chopin were influenced by Beethoven, and finally how they then influenced the composers who came after them. *Note : As explained in the Rubric, you should include your reflection/opinion on the topic, as well as factual information from our textbook. Your reflection/opinion can be a few sentences spaced throughout the essay, or it can be a few sentences in the concluding paragraph.
