Connecting can be achieved in m any different ways but it doe s take practice ! Before you Start 1. Ensure you have a LinkedIn profile set up. 2. Review the following to familiarize yourself with the LinkedIn Alumni Tool: https://youtu.be/KXoF4B2fNhA (please note: the location of the alumni button has changed when you get to the Camosun College page (it is now on the left -hand side) 3. Watch the following video on informational interviews: https://youtu.be/0mptXqOjtMk Instructions 1. Using the LinkedIn Alumni Finder find at least 5 graduates of the Hospitality Management Diploma program. Take a good l ook at their profiles and summarize in your paper your observations based on the following : • What types of positions did they hold? What do you notice about their career progression? • What kind of volunteer (if any) were they engaged in? • What recommendations they have received and/or given? What is said about them as a profes sional? • Have they pursued further education? In what area(s)? • What have you noticed about their activity on Linkedin? 2. Upon reviewing their profile, send a personalized note (see here for examples; alumnus is at the bottom) commenting on their profile and requesting a meeting. Please note: hitting the “connect” button can be impersonal and will lead to less people accepting your invitation. 3. Meet with at least 2 graduates (can be virtual) of your program and ask about their career story. Listen. Take notes. Ask them if there is anyone else you should speak with then do it! 4. Thank them (send a note). Employ the tips that you learnt on the above video. 5. Capture what you have learnt into a 3 -4 page (750 – 1000 words) APA report. Upload to Assignments folder by the due date . Areas to include (use headings): a) Observations from reviewing Linkedin profiles (see above guiding questions) and th is process of informational interviewing b) Your learning from speaking to alumni c) What you learnt about yourself: has your career goals changed in any way? Why/Why not? d) Areas to improve for informational interviewing, LinkedIn, etc. e) What other areas (such as technical or soft skills) you would like to learn or improve? f) Surprises you encountered g) Anything else you would like to add
