Application of Family Therapy Models Using A Case Study Paper (20%)

Students will be provided with a selection of case studies involving a number of family structures and complex presenting issues. They will be asked to plan an assessment and delivers intervention strategies that draw on further research on one or more of the family therapy models studied as part of this course.  One of the learning goals of this assignment is to show your familiarity with one or more specific models and your burgeoning skills in applying appropriate family therapy models to a family, albeit hypothetically. In this analysis, provide APA in-text citations and References and use/adhere to the following outline.


Assignment Outline:

Family Description (1-2 pages)

    1. Structure and Composition of the Family

  1. Describe demographics, characteristics, and roles of each family member.

  2. Identify strengths and resources of the family as a whole.

    1. Presenting Issues of the family

  1. Identify and describe presenting issues.


Goal Development (1 page)

Prioritize one or more treatment goals, based on the presenting challenges, that you would

plan to address that indicate a desirable positive outcome.


Literature Review on Presenting Issues (1-2 pages)

  1. Review research focusing on addressing the presenting issues.

  2. Select one or more of the family therapy approaches studied as having good potential to address the presenting condition or issues with a rationale based on empirical evidence.

  3. Discuss the extent to which this approach is relevant culturally and contextually to the family.

Intervention Plan (2 to 3 pages)

Using the SMART treatment planning approach, analyze one intervention to for each treatment outcome objective, which must be stated clearly in behaviorally measurable language.

  1. Specify your SMART outcome objectives determined by the family’s presenting challenges, and for each challenging issue or problem identify the corresponding treatment strategy.

  2. Describe in concise and specific detail how you plan to work with the family.

  3. Specify a minimum of three strategies from the model(s) selected and describe exactly how you plan to implement each intervention.

  4. Describe at least two changes you would be working toward for the family or individuals in the family and how you expect the intervention strategies to address each change.


Evaluation Plan (1 page)

How will you and the family recognize when their presenting challenges have been resolved? Describe your outcome evaluation plan based on the preceding clinical intervention using appropriate measures

Paper should no less than four pages and no more than eight. A minimum of three peer reviewed references is required for the literature review portion of the paper.
