Industries Should Be Held Accountable For Their Contribution Toward

Global Warming

The world is changing rapidly due to natural conditions that are affecting it. Some of these conditions are beyond human control which means that while the world keeps on changing, it will no longer be able to hold human life. Global warming is the major cause of such change whereby different people have focused on earning quick profits at the expense of the future of the earth. As

Due to global warming, there is an increase in average temperatures. According to NASA, 2016 was the world’s hottest year. Hot climatic conditions around different parts of the world have several consequences. One of them is the death of different species of animals due to lack of food and water. Extreme hot temperatures affect the growth rate of plants hence resulting to the death of the animals that depend on them (Marshall Burke, 2019).

Extreme hot temperatures also result to other problems such as increased rates on natural fires. The fires destroy large chunks of forested areas thus increasing the rate of desertification. Due to increasing temperatures, there is also a rise in the oceans sea level which results to the reduction of the amount of inland water that people depend on for various activities. At the same time, the increase of water in the ocean after melting results to natural calamities such as Tsunamis that lead to deaths and loss of property.

It has also resulted to change in other human activities. Some of the changes include migration from areas that have been affected by the disasters as the regions can no longer sustain human life. People have resulted into identifying other methods of food production due to reduced amount of rain. Others have made a lot of losses from practicing agricultural activities due to the losses that they have sustained because of the unpredictable climatic conditions and also increase of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases.

The current world is economy oriented whereby all nations tend to compete towards earning high profits through exporting as much products as possible. To expedite this, they have encouraged the development of different types of industries which includes those which are irresponsibly disposing waste products into the environment.

It seems that the owners of this industries either acquire high political influence to an extent that they appear above the set law that should govern irresponsible disposure of wastes or they contribute too much to the government to an extent that it tends to overlook their effects. This means that the entire world will have to suffer from their uncontrolled actions.

Industries require efficient transportation of raw materials and also finished products to the market around the world. This means that heavy transit vehicles which emit harmful gases into the atmosphere are used for the transportation of the materials. Consider a situation where 100 companies own over 40 trucks each. This means that they will radiate a lot of greenhouse gases consequently affecting the environment. Transportation contributed to 28.2% of the greenhouse gas that was emitted in the year 2018.

The industries also require enough electrical power so that to effectively run all the machines. To achieve this, fossil fuel, coal and other natural gases are burnt so that to generate the needed power. This contributes to the increase of the greenhouse emissions. In the year 2018, 22% of the greenhouse gases were contributed by generating power for the industries.

Industries depend on large scale quantities of raw materials which include agricultural products. To produce such goods in large quantities, the industries tend push farmers to use irresponsible farming activities which include use of heavy machinery that produce harmful gases into the environment. At the same time some require large quantities of timber example the paper industry. Trees are important when it comes to turning carbon dioxide into oxygen and by cutting them down, it means that there is reduced quantity of the oxygen levels hence resulting into global warming.

Other industries dispose wastes into water bodies which affects the rate of evaporation hence reducing the amount of rainfall within the region. This also includes negatively affecting the hydrological cycle which helps in maintaining the earth’s environment. The industries also require land whereby some might be sited in forested areas hence influencing deforestation. All this factors have resulting to an increase of the global warming (Johansson, 2017).

The USA is one of the main countries that contributes to global warming because of its high number of industries. One of the strategies that it has set is setting up innovations that are meant to manage the electricity sector so that to ensure that less emissions occur in the process of producing products within the industries (Climate Home News, 2018).

The country through the clean air act of 1963 is trying to reduce the amount of harmful gases that are emitted into the atmosphere through setting up regulations which are meant to control the industries. However, the objectives have not been achieved yet because the pollution level is still high in the country.

Different countries have also targeted on innovations that are aimed towards reducing the use of fuels so that to accommodate other environmentally friendly solutions. An example is the Mazda city in Saudi Arabia that only depends on natural sources of energy for all its functions. Japan being a major car manufacturing country has also invested into a friendlier environment through focusing on producing more efficient cars. This shows that there is progress in solving the issue of global warming even though a lot still must be done.

The world’s global warming level will not wait until when all industries have developed ways of managing their wastes. That is why it is important to come up with strategies that will be used to push them to take higher measures. The first strategy is setting realistic goals that can be attained by the industries. This includes giving them a duration of not less five years to set up more efficient machines such as switching from fossil energy onto solar energy options. However, there should be consequences for those who will not comply after the set duration is over.

The industries should also contribute funds that should be used to support those who are affected by natural calamities such as drought and floods. This will force them to come up with collective responsibilities of properly managing their waste products.

We are currently facing the problem of global warming because of selfish actions that can be controlled so that to mitigate the issue of global warming. Industries are the main contributors of the problem and should be held accountable for their actions so that to improve the current environment.
