Abstract

A homeless adolescent is a young youth who doesn't have a home to live. Some homeless adolescents have undergone several challenges in life, making them have a challenging experience about life. Some of the challenges are associated with their emotions, making it hard for them to be appreciated in society and making it hard for them to study while in school. Some of the challenges, such as school records, can be justified by looking at their records. Most of the adolescent homeless lacks people who can take care of them, making it very hard for them to study and have a formidable social life. Sometimes they find it very hard for them to find food, and they end up taking drugs. This paper will focus on effects such as emotions, academics, and social to the homeless adolescent.

Introduction

Adolescent development is the period where dependent children grow into independent people, and they become adults. Most adolescent period starts at the age of 10, and it might end in the late '20s. In the adolescent period, children undergo various changes in which include emotional, intellectual psychical, and emotional growth. By the adolescent developing intellectually, he/she studies a lot and can make her own decisions as an adult. If a child is at the adolescent stage, the adolescent has many activities that might affect him negatively or positively. (Blakemore, 2020)

Effects of adolescence

Adolescence has both positive and negative impacts. One of the most positive impacts is that it makes a person grow mentally, thus enabling them to make good decisions. On the other side, making decisions is good adolescence can make a person make adverse decisions that can make him/her regret his/her entire life. If a person is at the stage of youth, he/she need to stay at home close to his parents who can help him make decisions.

If the child is homeless and has no one to guide him on what is right and wrong, he is likely to be impacted negatively since the adolescent child might not know which is the right or bad decision to make. If the child does not have the right decision, he will be affected emotionally, socially and academically. If the child is involved socially and academically, it becomes hard for the child to study, and the child might end up performing poorly in school.

Effects of homelessness on adolescent emotionally.

In the adolescent period, children require to stay at home for parental care. If the adolescent lacks parental supervision, he is likely to have fear within him. Fear will make the adolescent afraid of everything since no one will be available to protect the adolescent against external threats. If the adolescent is overwhelmed with anxiety, he/she will not be able to rely on him/self thus is it will be hard for the person to rely on herself. If there is fear and the adolescent has no home, it will be hard for the homeless adolescent to associate with other people since she doesn't know a person he can trust and associate with.

If the child is affected emotionally, he is likely to be high tempered. When adolescence is high-tempered, It becomes challenging for them to relate with other people. If a person cannot associate with other people well, it becomes hard for him to prosper since no one will be willing to help him whenever he goes wrong. If a person is very emotional, it might be tough for other people to rectify his behaviours. Since it's tough to fix the adolescent's behaviour, the adolescent will undergo many difficulties.

If the adolescent is homeless, she will have to be forced to protect /himself from harmful people in the streets. This will make the adolescent sleepless. If a person does not sleep well, it becomes hard for the person to work since he/she is faced with a lot of difficulties where he will get a conducive place to sleep without disturbance from any person. If the adolescent does not sleep, it makes his mind tired, and it becomes hard for him to associate with other people and express his needs. Lack of sleep might force the adolescent to have emotional challenges.

When the children are at home, he has to stay with his parents, who will provide him with basic needs such as education. If there is no education for the adolescent, the adolescent is likely to be learning disabled. If the adolescent has a learning disability, it's hard for the adolescent to get the concepts they are taught in school. This makes other children who have homes more performing than adolescents without a home to live in. If the adolescent is homeless, he is likely to lack a person who will guide him in the activities he will do. This might make him commit many mistakes. The adolescence might be in a position of living a miserable life. (Ray, 2018)

If the adolescent has no place to live, he will be forced to live full of poverty. Sometimes, it will be hard for adolescent adolescents to get all the food and shelter since they are not employed. Adolescents might not be employed since they will think that the adolescent has not gotten to the right age for him to be used. If the adolescent is not engaged to get the basic needs, he will have many psychological difficulties, and it will be hard for the adolescent to feed himself and get a place to eat if he is jobless. The adolescent will have a lot of negative thought, and this is where the adolescent might be tempted to do illegal businesses where he can get fast money, such as selling illegal drugs. This might make the adolescent engage in drugs for him to get something to feed on.

If the adolescent is homeless, he is likely to have thousands of questions regarding the situations he is in. if the adolescent is in a harmful condition. If the adolescent cannot resolve the problem with ease, he is likely to have a lot of anxiety, leading to depression. These might make the adolescent always look tired. If the adolescent is making adverse decisions, the adolescent might consider stealing as the top priority to get resources, and the child might end up being a thief. To avoid all these challenges being brought to the homeless, the government can introduce a project to take care of the homeless adolescent. This can be of great help to children since they can be in a position of getting the basic needs.

Effects of homelessness on adolescent socially

If the child is homeless and has no parents to teach the child social skills, it can be challenging for them to interact with other people. Adolescent can be harsh for the people who try to coach them, and no one can help the child since the adolescent will always be rude to the people who try to help him. If the child cannot relate with other people, it will be hard for the child to associate with other people; thus, the child will not easily manage to secure a job for himself.

In the current society, people are recognized for how they present themselves. Most of the adolescents who don't have homes to live in do not know how to present themselves well. If they don't know how to present themselves well, it will be hard for them to be recognized in society, and if the adolescent is not well recognized in the community, he is not going to have a lot of value. If the adolescent does not have a lot of weight, it will be hard for him to associate with other people. If people don't like associating with them, they don't feel the worth of living, and sometimes it makes them make work decisions to society.

In societies, most of the homeless are known to be inferior. In case there are social gatherings, they do not listen when it comes to their chances of making the speech. Though the homeless might have a solid point to address, they might not be listed since they don't have a particular social status. Sometimes, the homeless might not know how to express themselves to people since most of them know that not many people are willing to listen. If they don't know how to say themselves well to other people, it becomes hard for them to be considered.

If the homeless adolescent calls for a social gathering, most people assume them since they don't have many friends. These people are likely to be ignored by the people of society. If they are ignored, they cannot meet their expectations and don't achieve what they had targeted for the social gathering. Sometimes, the homeless have many challenges though not many people can know about it.

Effects of homelessness on adolescent academically

Those who don't have parents to guide them find it hard to excel academically. Sometimes, it's hard for them to purchase books they can use to read to excel; since they don't have parents who can sponsor them, most of them end up going to the street to find the school fees for themselves. This makes them undergo a lot of challenges when they are studying in school.

When the homeless are in school, they lack the abilities on how they can express themselves. This makes them have a hard time while they are expressing themselves and to other students. When they face problems in a particular topic, they don't find how they can be helped. This makes them find it very hard to cope with school, and some end up dropping school before they complete their studies. (Howland, 2017)

If a person does not go to school regularly, it might be hard for him to know what the teacher taught in class. For the teacher to help the child understand what he had taught, he has to reteach the child's concepts. Sometimes, the teachers might not get enough time to reteach the concept to the adolescent since they have to attend other classes and plan what they are going to teach. If the adolescent does not go to school regularly, his performance will deteriorate, which hurts him and the school.

The homeless are the people who are responsible for paying their school fees and read. If their school fees are not paid, they are forced to multitask. Sometimes they might do a challenging task and get not a penny at the end of the day. If the children find their school fees, it becomes hard for them to recover from the challenging work while they were not in school. Some of them find it hard to recover the work covered in school, and they end up dropping the school.
