Annotated Bibliography

You will create an annotate bibliography following the guidelines regarding the required number of readings for each genre using the tool/application LiveBinders.

*It is recommended you set up your Live Binders in Unit 1.

It is highly recommended that you view this assessment as cumulative in nature and work on it consistently throughout the 5 weeks of the course.

Annotated Bibliography entries should include the following information:

  1. Complete book citation in APA format, including the author(s), illustrator (if provided on book cover), full title, year of publication, location of publication (city and state or city and country if not in United States), and publishing company.

  2. 5-7 sentence book summary, written in your own words and not copied from a website, book cover, or other commercial source.

  3. A 2-3 sentence evaluation of the book with rationale, e.g., “Book X by Patricia Polacco is a great story to show students the value of never giving up, even when things are extremely difficult. There are always lessons to be learned, even in challenging situations.  In addition, God’s word tells us to be faithful and to persevere, and He will see us through.”

  4. Two learning activities (for identified grade levels; you might do one for a primary grade and one for an intermediate or middle school grade to show the versatility of the story and the author’s message.

Reading Selection

You should select titles representing the varied genres of Children’s & Adolescent Literature. The genres and minimum requirements are provided.

Note that some genres may cross and be representative of two categories; for example, Rosa by Nikki Giovanni and illustrated by Bryan Collier is both a biography and a picture book.
