Introduction

Tourism in the United States is a large industry that serves millions of international and domestic tourists every year. Tourist visit the US to see natural wonders, urban areas, notable tourist spots, and amusement scenes. Americans seek similar attractions, as well as recreation and vacation areas. Tourism in the US grew rapidly in the form of urban tourism during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (Song, et. al, 2008). By the 1850s, tourism in US was well established both as a cultural activity and as an industry, all major US cities like New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C, and San Francisco, attracted a large number of tourists by the 1890s. By 1915, city touring had marked significant shifts in the way Americans perceived, organized, and moved (Gössling, S., 2008). Democratization of travel occurred during the early twentieth century when the automobile industry revolutionized travel. Similarly, air travel revolutionized travel during 1945–1969, contributing greatly to tourism in the United States. Purchases of travel and tourism-related goods and services by international tourists traveling in the United States totaled $10.9 billion during February 2013 (Cunado, J., 2008). Tourists spend more money in the United States than in some other country, while attracting the second-highest number of travellers after France. The discrepancy might be explained by longer stays in the USA. The aims of the present study are to distinguish a model best fitting the travel industry in the USA information and to figure the number of tourists entering the United States for 2018.

Brief History of Tourism in Texas

Texas is one of the largest states in US. It is known as the Lone Star state, which is packed with a lot of tourists. Tourism in Texas is a major source of income. It is the only state in the United States that was previously a country. Texas has a solid organization with well-developed tourism destinations. Texas is brimming with countless opportunities for fun and adventure. Socially and culturally diverse, the state offers a wealth of unique attractions and activities. From the urban areas to the seaside sea shores, mountains, and desert, vacation possibilities in Texas are extensive. Metropolitan centers, like Houston, Austin, and Dallas, are an interesting contrast to the West Texas cities but each has its own character and reason for visiting. San Antonio, famous for the Alamo and the River Walk, and the nearby Hill Country, should also be on tourists itineraries. For nature lovers, some of the best places to visit are places like Big Bend National Park, set along a bend in the Rio Grande in West Texas, and Padre Island National Sea Shore, along the Gulf of Mexico.

Tourism Statistics

Number of tourists, purpose of their trip, and revenue they generate.

At the global level, 52% of trips by tourists, just over 536 million, are motivated by leisure, recreation, and holidays. While 27%, are trips for visiting friends and family, health and treatments, religion, and pilgrimages. Some 14% are for business or professional matters and 7% for unspecified activities. Tourists spend more than $113 million in every day; the total direct spending is $44 billion yearly.

Origin of Tourist

Description of the key months

Most tourists arrive during the summer season i.e. between ends of July till end of August. While some tourists arrive during festival seasons such as, Thanksgiving (October/November), Christmas (December), New Year’s Day (January), Easter (April) and many more. Personally, I feel like there are opportunities for tourists to visit in any season. Some tourists might just feel like travelling whenever they feel like and it might not be during any festival season. It might be during their kid’s birthday or some international trip from school. So, it depends basically.

Evolution of Visiting

The Evolution of Visitation in US for the past 10 years is decreasing. The number of visitors coming into the country has declined. Tourists do not want to travel to US because of the rules that Donald Trump has been implementing. For some reasons, the president of US does not like some particular people, and he has made it obvious by announcing the new rules. Because of this the traveling rate of tourists coming into the country has reduced and has made the industry suffer.

Impact of Tourism

Benefits to Tourism

Tourism brings economic and employment benefits to Texas. A Texas governor's office report shows that “the state hosted approximately 256 million domestic visitors in 2015, increased 5.2% from the prior year”. “Direct travel spending in Texas totals $72.0 billion per year and majority of these tourists traveled for leisure versus 24% for business purposes” (M. Ray Perryman 2016). From travel and tourism, business activity grows in all major industrial and commercial sectors across the state, “creating 1.4 million new jobs in Texas” (M. Ray Perryman 2016). Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas wrote last year that “if the state didn't generate any travel tax revenue, each of the state's 29 million residents would have to pay an additional $740 in taxes in order to cover the gap” (Ben Harry, 2020).

Barriers to Tourism

Texas has many benefits for tourists, but the city also faces barriers to tourism acceptance. Since Co-vid has made a huge impact on the tourism industry, many new policies implemented by Texas government have forced the tourism industry to shut down. “Travel spending in Texas reached $83 billion in 2019. As a result of the pandemic, that figure was reduced to only $56.9 billion. There were over 580,000 job losses in Texas alone” (Bryce Newberry 2021). Some locals are Tourists illiterate and are not aware of the multiplier effect of tourism dollars on the economy.
