They are 4 questions (All questions are in the attached file, each page has one question). Each question has a general explanation that relates to the question and an attached article or video. Please

  1. Pay close attention to this important TED Talk. Christopher Ryan argues that prior to the horticultural revolution most humans lived in egalitarian, polyamorous societies.

The question: What is the standard sexual narrative? Are we designed to sexual omnivores? Does Ryan provide convincing evidence that it is a false narrative?

  1. Alice Paul was one of the leaders of the National Women's Party and the hunger strike she led in 1917 was a pivotal moment that directly led to the enactment of the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution - the amendment that gave women the right to vote throughout the United States in 1921.

A 2004 film - Iron Jawed Angels starring Hillary Swank as Alice Paul - was a dramatized version of real-life events: Iron Jawed Angels Clip - YouTube (5 mins video)

The question: Why should you thank Alice Paul and other leaders of the American women's movement? Why should you thank the everyday women (and men) - like Nancy Zebko - who worked together to change the world?

  1. Experts advise parents that they should avoid punishment that is "humiliating, scary, or threatening." Spanking is defined as "noninjurious, openhanded hitting with the intention of modifying child behavior." That sounds humiliating, scary, and threatening to me and I imagine it's a scary experience for the typical child.

This NY Times article discusses the 2018 American Academy of Pediatrics statement on the topic of spanking:

If you can't access The NY Times article, you can access the statement itself as it appeared in the December 2018 issue of the journal Pediatrics:

The question: Should parents avoid spanking their children? (How does relate to parenting styles and the problem of domestic violence?)

  1. Women in our WEIRD society are waiting longer to have babies, are having fewer babies, and for the first time in human history can choose to be child-free. Think about the micro and macro reasons for this trend.

The question: Will more people choose to be child-free in the future? Why are American women and women in other WEIRD societies having fewer babies?
