Impact of Data Loss in the Organization and Waste of Restoration

Loss of data has become a challenge for most businesses recently. Data loss involves the misplacement or missing essential files, records relating to the company. Most companies lose data due to deletion and the existence of corrupted viruses installed in the system. While this has become a problem, some of the data lost are recoverable, which IT technicians and specialists can do.

Several factors which contribute to data loss include:

  • virus and malware-malicious software installed in the system to corrupt the files.

  • Human error – deleting of files.

  • Hackers

  • Hard drive damages

  • Insider Threat

  • Ransomware

As a result, IT specialists have come up with data restoration and recovery tools to retrieve lost data from another reusable copy. Recovery tools have been installed in the systems whereby data deleted from human error can be found easily from a backup (A, 2018). Various restorations technologies have been adopted to challenge this situation. Therefore, it is vital to evaluate the restore procedure and the data recovery tools utilized to guarantee that a reliable data backup version is available for restoration. To ensure that protection copies satisfy recovery point objectives, they should be examined at random intervals (RPOs). The data that is being restored must be readable, consistent with a specific time, and contain the information required to meet RPOs (Posey & Peterson, 2020). Even with the attention given to data loss by organizations and restoration, cases of data loss still exist. It is necessary to conduct further research and determine the causes of data loss, prevention measures, and efficient restoration tools and techniques.

The main reason for choosing this topic is that there has been a tremendous growth of data manipulation by hackers who corrupt files with malicious software with the intention of extortion or earning income. Many corporations spend vast amounts of money on restoring lost data and even managing their data files which disrupt their day-to-day activities leading to losses (W, 2021). Research into this field will come up with elaborate plans and strategies to control this. The proposal will come up with an efficient solution for businesses to prevent data loss. The research proposal seeks to gain an insight into the problems associated with the loss of data for organizations and develop solutions to boost productivity.

Previous research has been done on this topic, but the study failed to encounter several persisting challenges, such as the backup and recovery failures for the proposed techniques and tools. This has become a problem since most businesses encounter pressure to satisfy their customers. Our research will look into the failures and attempt to provide solutions for recovery failure and safer backup procedures. Past researches have failed to consider the follow-up strategies for restoring data or the steps taken after data is lost (Tessian, 2021). This will be accounted for in the research work while trying to point out the recovery techniques.
