Part A

Use the first paragraph to introduce the 3 major themes you are about to detail in Part A. Also, you can introduce to your reader, the value this reaction paper holds for you- how does it feel to write a reaction paper for the third time? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Begin with first reaction, here. For my first reaction theme, I would like to react to the differences in communication styles of men and women as outlined in Table 15.5. Go to Unit 8, Chapter 15, page 27 and read about the differences. Comment one by one on few of the differences and you will be done writing the first paragraph . Tell the reader whether you agree or disagree. For example, according to the table, men talk more assertively and directly and more interested in talks about career and sports. Why do you think that is the case? Is it just a stereotype or a reality? Do you agree or disagree ? Why or why not ? Build logics. Explore social and cultural reasons. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Begin with second reaction here. My second reaction topic is an anxiety disorder mentioned in Chapter 15- it is called as Agoraphobia, which literally means “fear of the marketplace”. It is characterized by intense fear, anxiety, and avoidance of situations in which it might be difficult to escape or receive help if one experiences symptoms of a panic attack. Tell the reader about your understanding of this disorder. Why do people suffering from agoraphobia think they will get caught in an inescapable situation? Does this tendency develop because of some previous life experience or is it some genetically inherited pattern? Research PSYCHOLOGY TODAY articles. About 1.4% of Americans experience agoraphobia during their lifetime (Kessler et al., 2005 as cited in Spielman, 2017). Can you comment on this statistic? What could be the reason ? Explore incidence rates in other cultural differences and compare if interested.

Start with 3rd reaction, here. In chapter 16, the authors inform us about the ways in which people with mental illness were treated. It was widely believed that demonic possessions, witchcraft and angry gods were the reason behind the mental illness (Szasz, 1960 as cited in Spielman et.al. 2017) What is your opinion on this? Why do people blame an outside force in such cases? Do you think this trend has changed in recent times due to evolution of medical science and growing availability of insights into human brain? Why is sickness associated with demons? Build logic. What is so different with mental health disorders that make people think of demonic possession? Are some of the symptoms of mental health disorders we studied in Week 10 typical of intervention of a supernatural force? Which disorders are those? Can you think of those disorders? (Hint: delusions, hallucinations). Explore a PSYCHOLOGY ARTICLE related to this matter- why is mental illness associated with demons?.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Part B

This should be your Introductory Paragraph. Tell your reader about the 3 main themes you are about to interlink. Inform the reader about their relevance in general. Was it a good experience interrelating major themes to each other? Does it enhance your understanding of the concepts in a deeper way? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Interlink Theme A and B (Do not write this). In the next line, you can see an example of entire paragraph. Do not use fancy words- keep the explanation very simple. The example starts from the next line. Let me first identify the relationship between stress management and drug abuse. As per Sinha and Jasterboff (2013), stress is one of the key risk factors in addiction, initiation, maintenance, relapse, and thus treatment failure. This is understandable as I have seen many people taking to drugs for managing stress. It does reflect a lack of will power on their part because everyone encounters stress, just like these people. I also think it is likely because some people are more likely to give in than others. I wonder if this pattern of behaviour is related to personality differences. Maybe it is genetic- but I think most of it is learned behaviour. Some people learn to cope with stress in a faulty way, so they probably take to drug use faster than others. An article by Heshmat (2017) also mentions that stressful life events combined with poor coping skills may impact the risk of addiction by increasing impulsive responding and self-medication. Therefore, I think it is right to say that while we may not be able to eliminate stress, but we surely need to learn healthy coping styles to manage it.

Interlink Theme B and C(Do not write this as it is) ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Interlink Theme A and C_ _______________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

In last paragraph, interlink A, B, C with each other__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Conclusive Paragraph outlines your experience with this reaction paper. How it helped you link themes to each other? What hurdles you faced when establishing a relationship between these themes? What are some of the unanswered questions in your mind with respect to these themes? The conclusive paragraph should summarize the key themes you discussed throughout the work and, wrap up your final thoughts and main points, combining all important information with an emotional appeal.
