[if you plan to write on a hard-copy, the spaces below will NOT be large enough – either make them bigger before printing OR simply write the required parts on a sheet of paper – I tend to just use my log as a bookmark. If you are typing, the boxes will expand as you type]

Vocabulary Section of the SSR Log Assignment

Word, Source with Page #, and Context

(At minimum, provide the sentence the word is found in – however, depending on the usage, the sentences before or after might be needed)

Context Clue and Hypothesis

(Review p. 12-16 of the textbook. Is there a context clue available? If so, which type of context clue are you using to help make an educated guess at the definition of the word? Then, what’s your guess? [you will not be graded on if your guess is correct – you will be graded on if your hypothesis is plausible based on the context])

Check the Dictionary and Reflect

(What is the complete/full definition from a dictionary? I recommend copy/paste!

Then, which definition for the word fits best in this passage? Why? How do you know?

Finally, was your hypothesis correct? Close? Really far off? Reflect.
