After reading the chapter please answer the following questions. Many NPO's count on government grants as a means to accomplish their mission. This is especially true for NPO's that work in the fields of education, health care, and social services. All levels of government are involved in the grants process. Often local NPOs will apply to the state, who than applies to the federal government on behalf of the local authorities. There are the upsides and downsides of government funding. Understanding the basics about grants and government contracts is a vital part of NPO business management. According to our text almost 1/3 of NPO revenues comes from public sources, 8% from grants and about 25% from payments for goods and services. Depending on where the grants originate from they each have their own set of rules and qualifications. Some require matching funds and complex administrative requirements and reporting. All have some sort of performance requirement.
