Prep for your first assignment…

Pretend you have been hired in the healthcare career of your choice. Your employer has asked you to write an article for your company’s Facebook page. This will require you to choose a healthcare-related topic, perform research, and write an article in the form of a five-paragraph essay. We will work on this article in small steps over the next five weeks.

The first step that will be completed in this week's assignment is: Creating an Outline. 

Throughout the rest of this course, you will be creating an article to inform your readers of a healthcare issue that they may face and provide resources related to this issue. Your topic should be one that you think would be both interesting and beneficial for your audience to read. Have fun picking a topic that you might encounter in your future career!

Assignment Instructions

  1. Select your healthcare topic and identify the three main ideas that you will focus on in this article.

    1. Review “What is your topic, purpose, and audience?(this link opens in a new window/tab) ” and Interactive 1A – Who is Your Audience?(this link opens in a new window/tab)  for help identifying your purpose and audience.

  2. Research your topic. Be sure to keep track of the sources you used to gather your information, as you will have to cite them in your writing using APA formatting.

  3. Open the EN1150 Article Template. (this link opens in a new window/tab) Click “enable editing” at the top.

  4. Locate the portion titled, “Week 1 Assignment: Creating the Outline.” in the template you downloaded and follow the instructions.

  5. Using the format provided, create the outline for the Facebook article.
    Review “The Research Process?(this link opens in a new window/tab) ” and Interactives 1B – Credible Sources and Boolean Searches(this link opens in a new window/tab)  and 1C – The Writing Process(this link opens in a new window/tab)  for help identifying your purpose and audience.

  6. Visit the UMA library for additional research.(this link opens in a new window/tab) 

  7. Review the grading rubric and check your work.

  8. Submit your updated article template for grading.

  9. Be sure to save your article template, you will need it again next week!

Assignment Expectations

In order to draft this article, you will need to download the article template. You will add content to this template each week in order to compose your article. The portions of the template to complete each week are indicated for you on the template. Save your work. You will use it again next week.

Instructions for Saving and Uploading Completed Assignment

  1. Download the template when instructed. 

  2. Select Enable Editing at the top of the document.

  3. Select File, then select Save As from the drop-down menu. Title your document using the following format. Lastname_Firstname_Course#

  4. Complete the assignment.

  5. Then upload your assignment by selecting the Upload button.

  6. Select your saved file. Then, select the Submit button below to submit your assignment to your instructor for grading
