Project 2

Introduction –

Hook Deforestation is a well-known topic across nations, unfortunately many only know of the definition, or the minor effects deforestation has on our environment.

Background Deforestation is when a forest or wooded areas are cleared for industrial, commercial, or agricultural reasons. There is evidence to support that deforestation has a major negative effect on our environment . It is important to know how deforestation affects our environment globally and how those consequences affect our health .

Thesis Researchers are reporting that deforestations, has a big effect on both local and global food security because it changes wildlife habitats and ecosystems, causes soil erosion and topsoil loss, lowers water quality, and lowers agricultural yields (Lawrence et al., 2022).

Body –

Topic sentence

With all of the new infrastructure build across the world animals are forced to inhabit the few forest and vegetated areas left and even those homes are being threatened.

Evidence

” As these studies point out, the risk of extinction is more accurately determined by looking at impacts of development on small-ranged and threatened species rather than total number of species.” (Vijay et al., 2016)

Analysis

Every living and nonliving organism plays a vital role in our environment and sustainability . The fact that deforestation is wiping out entire species is very alarming and will have unknown effects to us humans and our environment . This is not even talking about the plant species that filter our pollutants in our atmosphere being obliterated from a specific environment where it was thriving. Why are we allowing or actively doing this one might think . To answer that question is certain regions such as south America and south Africa tropical rainforest are being destroyed in order to mass produce palm oil .

Evidence

, there is relatively low protection by IUCN category I and II protected areas (4.4% in Southeast Asia to 11.5% in Mesoamerica). (Vijay et al., 2016)

Analysis

The IUCN ( The international Union for conservation of nature ) is making an effort to protect certain areas with animals who are being endangered . Category one is labeled Extinct and two is labels Extinct in the wild . With that being said yes there is an effort to protect areas with these extreme conditions but 15% of forest that are in these conditions are actually being protected . There is a plethora of species that are critically endangered ( category three) and endangered ( category four ) that are in these forests that are being torn down and not being protected . We will learn how catastrophic the effects due to the lack of biodiversity when it is too late to reverse its effects .
