Propose a Research Theme (Research Proposal).

The purpose of a proposal is to give your readers an overview of what you will discuss in your

research paper; please note a proposal is not a mini - research paper. A proposal should be based on

a specific narrow research issue, which is both engaging and original. Your proposal should

contain a research question that you intend to explore and gradually respond to. If you already

conducted significant research by the time you are composing your proposal, then you can also

include a one - sentence - long thesis s tatement which reveals your central idea, your distinct and

well - developed conclusion on a research issue. The proposal should reveal the purpose of the

research project .

In your introduction, begin with a "hook," identify your topic, provide necessary background

information, discuss any controversy surrounding it, and include your research question (along

with a tentative thesis if you developed it already). In your body paragraphs, explain your research

strategy in prose form. What prior knowledge do you have on a chosen discussion issue? Where

are you finding necessary information, and how are you going to incorporate it? What are you

discovering, and, conversely, what ar e you not? Where else are you going to look? Finally, discuss

the layout and structure of your paper. What will the shape of your paper be? What is your ultimate

goal as a researcher, scientist, thinker ?

The last page of your proposal is a bibliography, the Works Cited page. It should be doubled -

spaced, and the sources should be in alphabetical order. However, there is one important

difference. The bibliography page (Works Cited) should contain every single source that you have

consulted, including sources, which you have not necessarily mentioned in your proposal, or you

might not use in the long run .
