Bah A. B. (2015). The impact of a diverse workforce on an organization: Challenges and opportunities. Organizational Leadership. Retrieved from https://sophia.stkate.edu/maolhonors/18

This source is an action research project conducted by Bah (2015) to determine the “impact of a diverse workforce on an organization and highlight the challenges and impacts.” All forms of diversity were considered in this study, including cultural diversity, which was given close attention. The sample used was derived from a diverse organization in Minnesota, with interviews being used as the main tool for data collection. To interact and get a clue about how diversity works in an organization, Bah (2015) also observed the organization's monthly meeting and strategic planning retreat. The results indicate an increase in performance, productivity, and efficiency. This source is, therefore, helpful in discussing how organizations can use diversity to improve their overall performance.

Farnsworth et al. write about workplace diversity, including its benefits, challenges, and strategies for managing a diverse workforce. This source is aimed at benefiting managers in the effective management of a diverse workforce while enabling learners to understand all the aspects presented. The source begins with an introduction, in which the authors highlight the importance of organizations embracing diversity. The second part is focused on the definition of workplace diversity, followed by benefits (for example, increased creativity and productivity) and challenges (for example, prejudice and discrimination, which lead to a loss in productivity and personnel). The authors further present the tools for managing diversity, for instance, promoting a safe place for the employees to communicate and offering regular training. This source will be helpful in my introduction as it provides the definition that I can use as well as an overview of the benefits and challenges of workplace diversity. I will also use it to highlight the diversity management tools in the introduction.

Penn LPS (2022). Why are diversity and inclusion critical in the workplace? Retrieved from https://lpsonline.sas.upenn.edu/features/why-are-diversity-and-inclusion-critical-workplace

Penn LPS simply explores the reasons why leaders and organizations must focus on diversity and inclusion. One of the reasons is retaining a greater pool of talent: if employees feel like the environment, they work in is equitable, and they are appreciated, their level of job satisfaction increases, including taking pride in their jobs and serving as strong brand advocates for their employers. In addition, diversity in the workplace raises the chances of an organization attracting a large pool of talent due to good word of mouth about the organization by the existing workforce. Penn LPS also adds that a diverse workforce boosts innovation, profitability, and employee engagement and increases understanding and informed decision-making. With the help of this source, I will discuss in detail how workplace diversity helps organizations to attract and retain talents.

Piercy C. W. (2020). Problem-solving in teams and groups. Pressbooks. Retrieved from https://opentext.ku.edu/teams/chapter/hofstedes-cultural-dimensions/

This is a book chapter that discusses the impact of diversity on group decision-making and problem-solving. Piercy (2020) analyses the different studies which prove that diversity helps in making better decisions and solving problems, for example, he points out that diverse teams are more effective at decision-making and problem-solving because they tend to concentrate on facts, remain objective, and encourage a higher level of scrutiny among team members. Because diverse groups contain people with different experiences and points of view, workplaces can realize game-changing solutions to problems, as well as cultivate mutual understanding among team members. A diverse team also encourages richer and more comprehensive discussions, which bring about accurate outcomes and better decision-making. With the help of this source, I will discuss how working in a diverse team contributes to better problem-solving in organizations.

Taylor A. S. (2015). Transformational leadership, diversity, and creativity at work: A moderated meditation model. Dissertations and Theses. Retrieved from https://doi.org/10.15760/etd.2338

In this dissertation, Taylor seeks to establish the “relationships between leadership and the multi-dimensional construct of workplace diversity.” 371 employees and 64 supervisors were sampled from three Chinese-high technology firms to examine how diversity influences their creative performance. Two measures of creative performance were used, namely, self-ratings and supervisor ratings. The results indicate that self-rated creative performance was predicted by transformational leadership and diversity climate, while supervisor ratings of creative performance were significantly predicted by organizational identity. The result shows that transformational leadership predicts creative performance through a diverse climate, which implies that a diverse workforce leads to increased creativity. This source is valuable in discussing how a diverse workforce contributes to increased creativity with the help of transformational leadership.
