Discussion board # 1 Human Resource.

Please note that there are three posts needed to successfully complete the discussion board assignment. An initial post addressing the discussion board topic is due by end of day Saturday. Two response posts to at least one other student is due by end of day Tuesday.

Initial post: #1

  • Includes one substantive initial post using at least two scholarly or professional references with accompanying in-text citations to support any paraphrased, summarized, or quoted material.

  • your initial post should be at least 350 words.

  • Includes an open-ended, thought-provoking question posed to classmates.

Part I: Locate a recent empirical research study focused on strategic human resources. Synthesize the research findings, and discuss the author’s recommendation for further research. Based on your current knowledge of strategic human resources, identify one additional area where you believe further research is needed. Explain your rationale.

When responding to another student, search and report facts that may contribute to their suggestions for future research.

Part II:

The study by Ferdousi and Abedin (2023) explores the critical role of Strategic Human Resource Management in social business organizations striving to create shared value by balancing social and business objectives. The study in Bangladesh investigates four social business cases through interviews, field visits, and document reviews (Ferdousi & Abedin, 2023). Key findings emphasize formal recruitment processes, rigorous on-the-job training aligned with organizational goals, and the establishment of key performance indicators for evaluating employees' performance in both social and business dimensions.

The study identifies a human resource management paradox in social businesses, where tensions arise in hiring decisions between individuals with necessary skills and those facing severe disadvantages. It underscores the importance of managing costs while increasing social impact, especially in organizations aiming for self-sustainability without relying on donor funds (Ferdousi & Abedin, 2023). The findings also shed light on compensation challenges, particularly when pricing products lower than the cost to benefit disadvantaged populations. The author recommends high-performance HRM practices for future growth and shared value optimization, emphasizing sophisticated selection, extensive training, and incentive-based compensation tied to performance.

The author's recommendations for further research revolve around addressing limitations and expanding the scope of the study. The study acknowledges its focus on four social business cases in Bangladesh, suggesting that the results may not be generalizable to other industries and cultural contexts (Ferdousi & Abedin, 2023). The author encourages future research to include quantitative studies on larger samples from diverse industries and nations to enhance generalizability. Additionally, the study emphasizes the need for more research on HRM practices in social enterprises, especially in developing countries, where unique challenges and opportunities may exist (Ferdousi & Abedin, 2023). There is a call for further empirical investigations to explore the integrated concepts of SHRM and shared value.

Additional Area for Further Research

Another area for further research in strategic human resources that merits attention is examining the effect of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, on HRM practices. As organizations increasingly incorporate advanced technologies into their operations, understanding how these innovations influence talent acquisition, employee development, performance management, and overall HR strategy becomes crucial (Arora & Siradhana, 2022). Exploring the implications of AI and automation on job roles, skill requirements, and employee experience can provide valuable insights into how HRM can adapt and leverage technology to enhance organizational performance and competitiveness (Rožman et al., 2023). This research would be particularly pertinent in addressing probable challenges and ethical considerations associated with using technology in HRM, ensuring a balanced approach that aligns with business goals and employee well-being.

Question to the class: How can organizations effectively balance the use of technology in human resources management to enhance efficiency while maintaining a human-centric approach to employee relations and well-being?

Discussion board # 2 Quantitive

  • your initial post should be at least 350 words.

  • Includes an open-ended, thought-provoking question posed to classmates.

Part II: What is a potential research topic you are interested in? How might you use quantitative methodology in your future doctoral research study?

A potential research topic that I have been ruminating on is leadership development as a strategic initiative for the growth and development of global/multicultural organizations. My potential topic is best suited for a qualitative study, nevertheless, testing the hypothesis, analyzing the results and discussing the findings would benefit from some numerical analysis and presentation. For example, if two hundred people participated in the research, the characteristics of the participants and their responses will be presented in numerical data. This will make it easier for the assignment of thematic weights and the succint presentation of the information and conclusion. According to Cathala and Moorley (2018), quantitative research methodology is used to numerically associate/interprete links between hypothesis, research questions, research variables, and research findings. Pilar et al. (2022) presents an example of how quantitative tools could be used in a qaulitatative research. The paper did a literature review of studies relating to the nursing practice. It used numerical values to determine the reliability of the study results and to show nurse how to make decisions based on the results in a research study.

My previous experiences with statistics were in undergraduate classes where I took two classes on statistics and conducted two undergraduate research studies. Another experience was in my master's degree research study where I applied statistical analysis. The other experience is from my professional life where I periodically rely on statistical analysis for evaluation and presentation of information.
