Reflections on an women’s Life An interview with Geeta Sharma I had got advantage of speaking with Geeta Sharma, a woman who has lived an interesting life.

Geeta is my neighbourhood who I have known for many years. She friendly accepted my invitation to participate in this interview. Our conversation lasted for several hours, as Geeta thoughtfully recounted her experiences. She spoke openly, but man secretive about certain issues. I thought Geeta was a warm and engaging narrator, although some topics bought back difficult memories of her life. Geeta was born in 19 7 0 in the small town of India, Geeta has experienced many changes over the time. She was raised in traditional Hindu family. The expectations for girls at that time was to become a wife and have children. After completing 12 th grade, Geeta got married and have three children, while pursuing h er higher education. She completed her degree of becoming a teacher. She is now working as a teacher in high school, making future of young lives in her community. Although Geeta faced obstacles as a young woman in achieving her dreams, she took pride in shaping her life on her own ways as much as possible. Early life and growing up G eeta’s family had gender views that were common in her community at that time. Geeta was the only girl with two brothers. Her mother teaches skills such as cooking and cleaning. While her brother should focus on activities outside the home, Geeta knew that her own job was to support her family in the future. This was not easy according to her nature, but Geeta accepted it as a normal. She went to gurukul where they teach the message that girl should be the mother, do household activities and should no t pursue other professions. Although Geeta enjoyed her study, but she knew that there will be no chance of higher education.

As going to college for girls is against her family’s values and tradition. Geeta accepted our current situation, but she was secretly, hoping that later she w ould have the opportunity to express her interest. After completing h er high school, she was unaware about h er future, that what will happen next to her life . After graduation from high school, her family started pressuring for her marriage. Geeta did the marriage at the age of 20, feeling it was the only acceptable option, even though she herself was not ready for it . After becoming a wife and mother, it bought new satisfaction, but also limitation that Geeta had not anticipated. Having three children’s at the age of 28 made her life only to the point of the needs of her children and to support her family. Returning to work and school while maintaining her life seemed like a big challenge. Although Geeta recognized the happiness that her children bought, she also felt sadness about her postponed dreams. She secretly asked from her family that she should alone defined her own role in her society. Over the years, Geeta begins to have a desire to develop herself outside the home. Growing up and making a life In the long run of household life, Geeta can’t be able to ignore his opportunity to continue her education. As she knows that her family would not support for her higher education, but she applied for a teaching certification program. Now she was able to attend classes, part time along with her family care . It seemed difficult for Geeta, but she managed both the things very nicely and with proper dedication. After qualifying with A - grade, Geeta got a part - time teaching job at local elementary school. A lot of pressure from work while raising children and staying at home was challenging, but Geeta did not agree with her career path and felt that being away fr om her family for long periods of time was inconsequently. Although Geeta worked hard, her fatigue problems were common . Sometimes it seemed impossible for her to arrange time for everything, and she was also hurt by her families disapproval, but she t old herself that she had to do hard work for achieving her dreams. Overcoming the obstacles, remained motivated to fulfil her educational duties, even a small success like her students improved grade. After two years of hard work in her current position, she was promoted to a full - time job with increased pay and many othe r benefits. As sum of money started coming in her home, this thing allowed her to hire a caretaker for her family and children. Her family also started accepting the changes and most acknowledged her choice.

Geeta felt pride as her commitment to reshaping her future started getting positive results. In the period of 1995, people started giving equal rights and opportunity to woman as males have. As she started joining women’s organization, participating in marches, and organizing locally, Geeta was able to expresses her opinions, which had rarely been expressed before. This was the first time that she recognized satisfactions with the social nor ms regarding woman’s that had previously common or natural about women. Reflections on changes over a lifetime As Geeta looks back on her life, she realizes that there have been many advances for women, but there are still obstacles. Today ’ s young generation is discovering a wide range of opportunities that her mother lacked. No one is against higher education and career for women. Geeta also recognizes that gender equality is increasing nowadays, but traditional views still influence society in some ruler areas. Political positions and highly paid positions are mainly dominated by men. In her opinion, violence against woman still occurs frequently in some areas of country but many feminists started various programs to boost gen der equality in the society. As she grew older, Geeta gained the courage to stand up for herself instead of trying to please others. Although she was previously afraid of conflict with her family, but now she expresses her values when she notices in equality with her family. Regardless of gender, no goal is big now for Geeta. She now can do everything regardless of gender. She also encouraged young woman, and men to further promote social equality between genders. Geeta also felt proud when her children and neighbourhood praises her when they see women building careers and live on their own t erms. Conclusion For myself, hearing Geeta ’ s experience has deepened my understanding of how intersecting identities, such as gender and class, influence life choices in political and historical contexts. There are still elements that can be further investigated to improve understanding. While feminism improves conditions for all genders, marginalized communities face different challenges that need to be discussed. Additionally, you will learn how wo men from different cultures and backgrounds encounter unique forms of barriers. Geet a 's story highlighted feminism as an evolving philosophy in which diverse perspectives support each other toward the growth of society toward justice and inclusion. Her life shows that courage and activism in the community can overcome resistance and build a society that respects the humanity of every individual.
