Assignment 2

Which definition most aptly describes your current job situation: long-term effort, support from top management, visioning processes, empowerment processes, learning processes, problem-solving, or ongoing collaborative management of the organization’s culture? Please be specific in your answer.

I am an undergraduate admissions counselor at a St. Thomas University. I would say that our current job situation is problem solving and ongoing collaborative management of the organization’s culture. At STU in the last year, we have been able to change fall enrollment from 1109 for 2023 to 1720 for 2024. We are up 55.09 % YTD. There are alot of things we’ve been able to put into place.

There's a whole field of study for admissions ethics, I learned its illegal by the dept of education to give bonuses or raises based on how many students are recruited. Admissions counselors are supposed to advise the student to find the school that is the best fit for them (academically, socially, financially, athletically, and not have ulterior motives to recruit them.

The second link is a cool power point with information on that transparency about financial aid offers is also a big part of it. We stick to hard discount rates so it's not as big of an issue for us. Other institutions have no limit and could over award or under award if they want.

The other thing I think is truly relevant for this year is setting realistic deadlines that give the students time to review their options and make a decision.

FASFA has had issues with their new 2024-2025 application and had the entire country on hold with their financial aid. We were able to offer students an extended May 15 date and June 1 deadline instead of May 1st.

We are constantly solving problems and making sure it makes sense for our students and being ahead of them game. Our management team makes sure they have our back and that we have the students best interest.

We have made our entire department better in every aspect. We have created an individual check list per student so we can avoid any errors per student. We have created a financial aid system to give them a financial aid estimate while we waited for their aid to arrive at the university. This specific system was designed and would be based from the students SAI # (student aid index) that number gives us an idea of what each family qualifies for. If you received that number, we would be able to proceed with a Financial Aid estimate.

This year we were also able to implement a new system to be able to see and manage all of our students documents and status in the process. We have main dashboard page with basic information, timeline tab with all emails and text messages sent and received, students profile, a materials tab with all the transcripts and documents needed and finally a FASFA tab so we can see the aid that has been awarded.

We get support all the way from the top. They discuss everything with the team, and we are able to problem solve together.
