please help with my assignment due Friday

Use the Data Set Download Data Set to complete this project.   The data consists of all who took the CAAP Critical Thinking Assessment at Seward County Community College from 2002 – 2011.

You will create a report describing the data.  You will use the concepts you have learned in the first three chapters to do that.  Your written report should include the statistics or graphs to support your written descriptions of the data.  Make sure you thoroughly describe the following characteristics of data: center, variation, distribution, outliers, and time.  Include the following items to help your describe the data.

  • Create a frequency distribution for all of the scores, construct a histogram based on the data, and describe the distribution.

  • Determine the mean score for each year the test was given, and use this data to develop a time-series plot for the data. What are the trends in the data? Be careful to use an appropriate scale so the graph is not misleading.

  • Determine the mean, median, and standard deviation of the data and explain what these tell you about the data. Which of these are affected by outliers?

  • Find a random sample of the data including a representative sample from each year. Find the mean and standard deviation of this sample and compare these measures to the mean and standard deviation of the population.  Explain the process used to find the sample.

  • Find the five number summary for the data, construct a box-plot, and use these to further describe the data. Determine if there are any outliers.

You grade will be determined by the accuracy of the statistics, your explanations and descriptions of the data, and your writing ability.

Your writing scores will be based on three categories:  Structure, Correctness, and Content/Audience.

  • Structure includes how the paper is organized. Each paragraph should be focused on the main theme and unified.  Each sentence should flow from one to the next.  Don’t jump from one concept to something completely different in the next sentence.  The paper should include an opening paragraph that gives an overview of the paper and makes the reader want to read it.  It should also include a closing paragraph the ties the paper together and summarize the major findings in the paper.

  • Correctness covers grammar and spelling errors

  • Content/Audience deals with how whether the claims made in the paper are supported by the statistical evidence and whether the writing is appropriate for the audience. The audience for this paper consists of people who have not had a statistics class.  That means you need to explain statistical terms in easy to understand language and explain how you make the claims you make.
