NURS 3113 The Science of Nursing Theory Project | Week 7 INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES For this project, you will create a narrated multi -media presentation utilizing PowerPoint. The purpose of the project is to describe your selected nursing theory and relate it to your current nursing practice. Week 3 -7, you will be completing specific sections of this project by completing specific PowerPoint slides. You will be required to submit your slides each week for a completion grade . Any weekly submission not turned in per the due date will receive 10 points off the final grade. Example, 2 weeks not submitted or not submitted on time, 20 points will be deducted. Please wait until week 7 to voice record your full project. Voice recording will not be graded until your full project is complete and submitted at the end of Week 7. If you are not familiar with PowerPoint, please see the following for instructions: Steps to Edit a Voiceover for a Specific Slide in PowerPoint: 1. Open Your PowerPoint Presentation: - Launch PowerPoint and open the presentation that contains the voiceover you want to edit. 2. Navigate to the Slide: - Go to the specific slide where you want to edit or change the voiceover. 3. Delete the Existing Voiceover (If needed): - If there is an existing voiceover that you want to completely replace, click on the speaker icon that represents the audio on that slide, then press Delete to remove the current recording. 4. Record New Audio for the Slide: - To record new audio, follow these steps: a) Click on the slide you want to add the new voiceover to. b) Go to the Insert tab on the Ribbon. c) In the “Media” group, click Audio, and then select Record Audio. d) A dialog box will appear where you can name your audio file. e) Click the Record button (red circle) to start recording your voiceover for that slide. f) Once you’re done recording, click the Stop button (square). g) Click OK to insert the recording into the slide. h) Adjust Audio Placement and Settings: - The audio icon will appear on the slide. You can move it to a convenient spot or even hide it during the presentation. - To adjust the settings for your audio, click on the audio icon and use the options under the Playback tab. You can set it to play automatically, in sequence, or on a click. Trim the Audio (Optional): • If you need to trim your voiceover, select the audio icon, go to the Playback tab, and click Trim Audio. A window will appear allowing you to trim the start and end of the audio file. Preview the Audio: • Play the slide to check that the new voiceover aligns with your expectations. You can either click on the audio icon to play it manually or start the slideshow from that slide to preview it. Save Your Changes: • Once you’re satisfied with the voiceover on the specific slide, save your PowerPoint presentation. Tips for Managing Voiceovers in PowerPoint: • Per Slide Recording: If you have multiple slides with different voiceovers, repeat the above steps to ensure each slide is handled individually. • Volume Control: In the Playback tab, you can also adjust the volume of the voiceover if it’s too quiet or too loud. • Re -recording a Portion: PowerPoint doesn’t allow for easy partial re -recording of a specific section of audio within a slide. To fix a small portion, you’ll need to re-record the entire slide or edit the audio in an external program and then insert it back into PowerPoint. Remember that professional presentations only include a few words on each slide and the majority of the wording/information is spoken. To increase the visual attractiveness of your presentation, add graphs, charts, or pictures to your slides. The full project is worth 200 points and is due at the end of Week 7 on Sunday at 2359. Late projects will not be accepted. REQUIREMENTS WEEK 3 (20 POINTS) During week 2 of this course, you selected your theorist for your Theory Paper. Utilizing the theorists’ theory, begin creating your PowerPoint presentation. Three (or more) scholarly references are required for this project and will need to be correctly referenced on slide 17. - Slide 1 of your Presentation should be an introduction slide that includes the selected theory and your name. (2 pts) - Slide 2 of your Presentation should clearly identify the theorist and provide a brief overview of the theorist including personal and family life, education and professional backgrounds, contributions to nursing, and influencing factors related to the development of their theory. (9 pts) - Slide 3 of your Presentation should clearly describe the purpose, scope, origin, and type of theory (grand, mid -range, philosophy, etc. ). Library staff are available to assist with searches for information if this is a new skill. Points will be reduced if less than 3 scholarly and current references are used. The reference page should be formatted according to APA formatting guidelines. Please refer to your APA manual and/or other resources for assistance. If APA formatting guidelines are not followed, zero points will be received on this section. (15 pts) Upload your completed PowerPoint presentation with voice narration for your full presentation. Voice narration is required on all slides . Any project submitted without voice narration will not be graded and will be given a grade of zero. The narration should be approximately 7-10 minutes in length. The narration should be clear and easy to understand without excess background noise. (15 points) The presentation needs visual appeal . Include pictures, graphics, etc. to meet this requirement. Information should not be a direct copy and paste from websites. Proper APA format for graphics/etc. Proper spelling, grammar, and sentence structure are expected to be used throughout the presentation.
