Write for EACH:
1. Write a definition of each of the above words/concepts based on a search from our Canvas course Resources Modules, Brittanica Academic Edition (f databases), or a dictionary. See the Modules: Resources for Culture, Resources for Symbolism, etc. MANY EXCELLENT resources! Write your source as an in-text citation.
2. Give examples of each term based on your own life experience, literature, movies, the arts, and documentaries. I recommend adding a variety of film examples here, and you can use them later in your essay as a compare/contrast.
3. Define the term in your own words.
Here’s the example of one of the definitions and this is should it look like.

I see culture when I go into a Thai food restaurant. I smell the tangy spices that define their delicious foods; I see decorations from Thailand, like woodcarvings of elephants and women in traditional dress and posture. The paint colors are vibrant red, orange, and gold. Music from Thailand, both modern and more traditional sounds, plays in the background. When ordering your dish, you speak the language “Tom ka gah” or “Pad Ke Mao.” If you are lucky enough to get the owner as your server you are treated in the custom of Thailand, you get teased. Laughter, smiles, and joy are what they treat their customers to. Even children, they talk to the children, there is even a tropical fish tank so parents can take the kids for a walk while they wait for their food. I am sure the fish and the elephants are symbolic of “Luck” and to have a prosperous business. I have never asked for specific meaning, but everything symbolizes something in Thai culture. Now, when the food comes, you see a colorful plate of veggies, noodles, meat, and sauce. Your taste buds are on overdrive, and if you have ever been to Thailand, your olfactory takes you straight back to that street stall in busy Bangkok or the floating bungalow on River Qui.
Going back to the definition, then, I can easily identify that yes beliefs, customs, arts, food and the way of life in tropical, coastal Thailand are all represented in this one restaurant. Therefore, my definition of culture is: Ways of being, beliefs, or customs identified through senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell) originating from a person's country of origin.
