Many countries are struggling with the issue of providing clean drinking water and here are a few reasons why:
Increased Population: An ever-increasing population is not only putting pressure on available water resources but also necessitating the need for a larger supply of water.
Pollution: Water is made unsafe to drink when sources such as factories, farms, and sewage contaminate water sources.
Climate Change: The shift in weather patterns can lead to both droughts and floods which affect the availability of water.
Lack of Maintenance and Old Infrastructure: Regions using aging water systems and pipes experience loss of water and contamination due to the systems leaking and breaking.
Inadequate Funds: Political issues can redirect funds, where some parts of the globe do not have sufficient funds for the construction or maintenance of water systems.
Environmental Degradation: Natural supplies are extensively reduced by the cutting down of trees and the overuse of water sourced from rivers and lakes.
Addressing these factors can be civil to ensuring everyone has universal access to clean water.
