Riches and Wellness
INTRODUCTION
Does the amount of money you make influence your wellbeing? I will be using an example of when my mother had an underlining condition and how having the finances to support her changed her wellbeing. If it wasn’t for her perseverance to continuously moving forward despite her financial situation her health would continue to deteriorate.
REASON 1 (First Body Paragraph)
Low-income and middle-class families must sacrifice their health for reasons such as the inability to take time off work or financial restraints. My mother had to face this problem early on when she was informed she would need to take two to three months of convalescent leave, due to her expenses she was unable to fulfil the request.
According to the Center for American Progress, "Improving health and health equity requires addressing the social, economic, and environmental determinants of health." This emphasizes the multifaceted approach necessary for substantial progress in healthcare. As the article further states, Policies that promote equitable access to high-quality health care and address the underlying social determinants of health are essential for achieving health equity." (APR 28, 2022) This underscores the significance of both healthcare access and broader societal factors in achieving equitable health outcomes
REASON 2 (Second Body Paragraph)
Stress is one of the biggest factors that can cause health to detonate, and environmental stressors found in low-income communities. The severity of my families’ issues left my father with no choice but to take it upon himself to get extra shifts at work. Due to the climate and region, they live in he would continuously get sick causing stress throughout the entire family "Disparities in coverage, access, and affordability within the health care system, as well as social, economic, and environmental factors, are key drivers of health inequities." - [American Progress](

These disparities underscore the urgent need for systemic changes to ensure equitable access to healthcare and address the broader determinants of health.
REASON 3 (Third Body Paragraph)
Not everyone has the same access to quality healthcare. Even after the sacrifices made by my parents and the stress it caused my family my mother was still not fully cured and will have to return for care but with everyone’s determination she will continue to strive for her health and wellbeing.
“The average person cannot hope to achieve any of these outcomes without a significant amount of effort, perseverance, and determination—all of which is absolutely necessary, but not sufficient.” "In the pursuit of financial stability, individual effort, perseverance, and determination are often lauded as the keys to success. As stated in the report by Purnell et al., 'The average person cannot hope to achieve any of these outcomes without a significant amount of effort, perseverance, and determination—all of which is absolutely necessary, but not sufficient.' However, it's essential to acknowledge the broader context outlined in the report, which highlights systemic inequalities and structural barriers that impede financial progress for many individuals and communities. Thus, while personal qualities are crucial, they must be coupled with systemic changes to create truly equitable opportunities for financial advancement."
CORE VALUES/PERSPECTIVE (Fourth Body Paragraph)
My core values of perseverance, integrity, and loyalty have not only served as guiding principles in my life but have also had a tremendous impact on my personal and professional development. Through perseverance, I've learnt the pursuit of wealth requires constant efforts while also committing to healthy habits and in terms developing discipline. Integrity has served as a compass to guide transparency and honesty between richness and wellness, ensuring that they are consistent with my ideals and promote inner serenity. Meanwhile, loyalty has helped me prioritize and deepen connections with my family and provided chances for growth and fulfillment.
"And actually, what's happening to the health of wealthier people is that it's remaining relatively stagnant, but the health of the lowest income group is declining substantially over time," - [NPR](https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2019/06/28/736938334/the-gap-between-rich-and-poor-americans-health-is-widening)
This quote highlights the concerning trend of widening health disparities between socioeconomic groups, emphasizing the urgent need for targeted interventions to address this growing inequality.
CONCLUSION
My mother's journey serves as an example of the complex but obvious reality that there is a correlation between financial security and well-being. Her story serves as an example of how financial limitations can have a significant negative influence on one's well-being. The relationship between wealth and health is made abundantly clear by the sacrifices made for convalescent leave because of financial constraints and the hardships of low-income life. Notwithstanding the institutional obstacles and inequalities in access to high-quality healthcare, the tenacity of my family continues to serve as evidence of the fortitude required to overcome these difficulties. In the end, this story emphasizes how critical it is to implement structural adjustments that deal with the socioeconomic determinants of health and guarantee fair possibilities for everyone to attain wellness and financial security.
