The article "Unemployment rate inches up during 2023, labor force participation rises" provides data on the U.S. labor market in 2023. The unemployment rate increased slightly in the second half of the year, but remained below 4 percent throughout the year. The labor force participation rate increased, particularly among women and people of prime working age. Unemployment rates varied by gender, race, education, and age. The article also discusses changes in labor force status, employment by occupational group, and telework rates. Overall, the labor market remained strong in 2023. This article will assist my stance that when the labor force is inconsistent with their presence it only contributes to unemployment because even with their assistance unemployment rates still struggle to decrease. Utilizing the research from credible sources I can also provide tangible evidence of the impacts of unemployment on specific demographics in the U.S. The article also sets up my counter argument and illustrates the potential of the labor force’s productivity increasing employment and helping citizens who struggle to find work.
