Recommended Testing and Screening
In order to assess these KSAOs, the following screening methods are proposed:
To Determine Knowledge: A written content test may be used to determine the knowledge of the major programs, policies, and resources in the university following an orientation training. This guarantees the applicant the ability to memorize and remember complicated information.
To Measure Skills:
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Role-playing is highly efficient. The candidate would take incoming and outgoing calls with an interviewer who would be a potential student. This shows their speaking skills, rapport skills, and customer service skills.
Technical Skills: a minimum computer proficiency test must be done. This would involve such tasks as typing speed (WPM test), entering information into a simulated database, and working with Microsoft Office programs.
To Measure Abilities:
This is best done with a situational judgment test (SJT). This test puts the candidates in real work situations (e.g., an angry prospect, a busy day with many calls, a tricky question regarding financial aid). Applicants decide the way they will react, and it shows their problem-solving skills, multitasking attitude, and professionalism (Chan & Schmitt, 2017).
Abilities such as coachability and goal orientation can be effectively revealed during an in-person or video interview through detailed behavior-based questions.
To Measure other Characteristics:
An interview with a department and university leadership panel on mission alignment is important. This discussion ought to look into the individual beliefs of the candidate and the dedication the candidate has towards the key values and mission of the university.
Characteristics such as reliability, integrity, and work ethic should be established by careful reference checks with former employers. The questions must ensure that the candidate is capable of ensuring confidentiality and working on a flexible schedule.
