Prompt: Develop a 5-minute, 5-slides PowerPoint presentation summarizing your findings in your Report—My Career assignment, suitable for delivery to other students like yourself who are considering pursuing the same or a similar career path as you. This assignment should help you clarify the key points conveyed by your Report—My Career and translate your data and ideas from the medium of the written document to the visual-verbal medium of a presentation. Your presentation should:

  • include only five slides and follow the assigned outline (below)

  • conform to the required time limit (min 3 minutes; max: 5 minutes)

  • evince a strategic use of color, image, design/layout, and text

  • strategically curate and use quotation, paraphrase, and summary to relay key terms, data, research, and insights from your Report—My Career

Slide 1: Title Slide:

Include your name on the slide and provide the job title/career path you want to pursue.

Slide 2: Overview:

Summarize and provide key information based on the “Brief Description,” “State of the Field,” and “Personal Rationale” sections of your report.

Slide 3: Key Data:

Select key data from elements of your report to include on this slide, such as: median annual wage, potential employers, required skills, preferred credentials and experience, work styles, and/or anticipated writing and research tasks.

Slide 4: Your Next Steps:

Based on your report—and especially your personal gap analysis and SMART goals, as well as the advice you received from your interviewee—identify the next steps you plan to take in order to pursue your chosen career.

Format: You must use PowerPoint for this assignment.

Number of Secondary Sources Required: Your final slide should list 4-8 sources, at least 4 of which should be peer-reviewed sources, following the style used for MLA Works Cited pages.

File Naming:

  • Save the draft of your presentation that you will workshop as LastName_Presentation_Draft (example: Jones_Presentation_Draft)

  • Save your final draft for submission as LastName_Presentation_Final (example: Jones_Presentation_Final)

Submission:

  • Make sure you are able to locate an electronic copy of your presentation for the scheduled draft workshop.

  • Upload the final version of your presentation to the relevant dropbox on PILOT at least one hour before the class when you are scheduled to deliver your presentation.

Grading Criteria: Your presentation is graded for completion and worth 10% of your final grade. So long as you deliver your presentation when scheduled, adhere to Wright State’s policies regarding academic integrity, and make a good faith effort to fulfill all of the requirements of the assignment, you can expect to receive full credit for your presentation. Your instructor, however, will use the following rubric to provide you with feedback on your presentation.
