Friction and Tension Classwork
Name_______________ Date:___________
You are moving out of your house and no one else will help you carry a heavy trunk, so you tie a rope to it and pull it across the floor (a horizontal surface) with a force of 200 N at an of 30o above the horizontal. The mass of the trunk is 40 kg and the coefficient of friction between the trunk and the floor is μk = 0.45.

Solve for the tension in A, B and C
A wooden block that weighs 128 g is placed on a metal track. You have determined through your experimentation that the coefficient of friction static friction between the block and the track is μs = 0.284. If the track is raised to an angle of 25o will the block slide down the ramp?
If so and the coefficient of kinetic friction is μk = 0.189, what is the acceleration of the block as it slides?
