Issues in the 2016 U.S presidential election debate

The announcement of Trump’s presidential candidacy reached many by surprise, not only in the United States but also all over the world. The prominent entrepreneur had earlier once shown interest in leading the country but had not been too serious about it to make people believe that he would. Despite that, he did it and had a lot for America, amidst his threats to do away with some actual things. Being an entrepreneur, there are so many economic issues that Trump will address. Also, although not so much of a socialist, his candidature will give rise to related social speculations.

To begin with, the issue concerning withdrawal from the transpacific partnership trade pact will not be left out. Through his campaigns, Trump showed much interest in rejecting the Asian trade pact. He was quoted saying that he would rise tariffs to 45% for all Chinese products entering the United States market (Appelbaum, 2016). This move will come with many repercussions for Beijing. However, for the United States, it will be a move to bilateral trade with the individual Asian countries without relying on china's influence. Although China will benefit by being the most influential in the Asian market, a lot will be lost to the protectionist move, if taken. Trump is however not concerned more about trading with China freely, but winning other trade partners on a one on one basis, if this move is to be taken. His promise, if actualized, would mean shifting manufacturing to the United States. This will have positive implications such as lowered trading costs. On the other end, China will face the negative impacts such as loss of market share and reduction of employment in her economy.

For years, the relationship between the United States and Mexico has been wanting. This is another issue I think will be given much weight in the presidential debate. This is due to Trump’s statements that he would deport back all the Latinos from U.S especially from California. This promise, rouse many speculations amongst the citizens. It raised hatred among them, and some could be heard calling him a racist or even blogging about it in most social media platform. The issue has much weight, one because, during his predecessor, Barrack, things had started assuming the right course for Mexico and the U.S. However, this remains a speculation which we would be not so sure of because mostly it is based on Trump’s personal feelings rather than the nation’s interests.

To sum this up, Trump’s promises, if actualized as President, will have a huge impact not only on the United States but also on other nations. The presidential election debate will give some insight on what he plans to do. The withdrawal from the transpacific partnership trade pact and deporting Latinos are some of the issues I think will be discussed.
