Evaluative Essay Part 1

The Simpsons are one of the longest and greatest running animated TV show having debuted in 198 with more than 500 episodes. It is more than just another cartoon series that the Americans are used to, the Simpsons have had such a great impact on the American daily living. The main characters include Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson who resides in a town called Springfield alongside other characters that appear on a regular basis on the show. The Simpsons show is a show worth experiencing as it connects directly to social issues affecting Americans such as family life and marriage, religion, politics and the environment.

Lisa Simpson, an animal-rights activist and feminist shows why conservation of nature and animals is important when she goes vegetarian and refuses to play with balls made from pigs’ bladder. At the end of this episode, the show also teaches us on the importance of tolerating others and trying to influence them without always badgering them as Lisa tried with her vegetarian lifestyle. The religious aspect of life is addressed by characters such as Homer who is not a religious man but hopes to be saved by a "Superman” in the sky. Springfield shows a good example of how Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and Jews can live together harmoniously without trying to imply which religion is superior.

A family does not have to be perfect as Homer and his wife Marge always have marital conflicts but affirm their love for each other at the end of it all. Each episode has a way of showing how family life is important and may be rough at times as Marge and Homer raise their three kids. The shows political perspective is that everyone is wrong about everything in a way that makes politics interesting and fun.

The Simpsons show is a show worth experiencing as it connects directly to social issues affecting Americans such as family life and marriage, religion, politics and the environment. It is important for a family to stick together despite the many challenges, different religions to live together harmoniously, taking care of the environment and learning to influence people without forcing on them a particular lifestyle.
