Annotated Bibliography: Gender Identity

Gurin, P., & Townsend, A. (1986). Properties of gender identity and their implications for gender consciousness. British Journal of Social Psychology, 25(2), 139-148.

The authors of this journal publication discussed the long-term and short-term

impacts and consequences for the woman surveyed that have announced their

gender identity issues. This journal entry lacks depth and overall validity

given the survey method of receiveing their data. However, still useful for the

assignment by giving good look into social impacts.

Hines, M., Brook, C., & Conway, G. S. (2004). Androgen and psychosexual development: Core gender identity, sexual orientation, and recalled childhood gender role behavior in women and men with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). Journal of sex research, 41(1), 75-81.

The Authors of this journal publication take the approach to clinically diagnose

their research with women who show male-typical behavior. The authors have

found a correlation between women with this behavior and congenital adrenal

hyperplasia (CAH). The scope of this work is to draw conclusions and identify

reasons for the affected women with gender identity issues. This is a fairly good

study; however, there is more research to be done before it is certain causes.

Litosseliti, L., & Sunderland, J. (Eds.). (2002). Gender identity and discourse analysis (Vol. 2). John Benjamins Publishing.

The Authors of this book use a collection of works that take on the continuing changes

that gender identity are influencing. These changes range from consumer products and

their marketing, to the concealment of lesbian identity, and overall the authors focus on

gender through the use of language; moreover, the disappearing line between male and

female genders, something that was once “black and white”. This source in relation to

the other sources is different in that it doesn’t truly have a side they stand on; however,

there is a feminist tone throughout. Overall, this book is a good reference in just how

wide of an issue gender identity spans.
