Abstract

With the development of portable electronic devices like mobile phones among others there is a rapid increase in the need of extended battery life. Batteries therefore must be either recharged or replaced often and since it’s tasking to keep replacing or recharging the battery after every now and then, problems arise in places where no power outlets are near.

The aim of this project therefore is to bring the concept of a wireless mobile charging Its major dream is to make it possible for the users to be able to place the phone on the shelf only and pick it fully charged after a certain time span. The project endeavors at replacing the cables and make a standardized interface that can be able to make adjustments on power settings if to charge diverse types of mobile phones.

Functional Requirements

Functional requirements in systems engineering describes the function of a system and its components. On the other hand functions refer to the set of inputs, behaviors and the outputs.

The wireless mobile changing system requires the user to place the adapter on a charging pad from where the mobile charges through the concept of advanced power transfer. A high frequency transformer is used in the conversion of the mains input of 230V AC to a direct voltage of 12V. This AC output is subsequently transmitted to the charging pad coil and when the adapter coil comes in the range of the charging pad coil, the power is transferred wirelessly into the receiving coils where the direct voltage of 12V is supplied to the adapter which converts the12 V DC to direct current of 5V which is then supplied to the phone system. With this system it will be possible to wirelessly charge the mobile phone without having to plug it in.

The second alternative for this system is the enhancement of this system whereby the charging adapter is integrated within the mobile phone so that the person charging the phone will just be required to place the mobile phone on the charging pad and charging takes place.

Requirements

To the proper functioning of the wireless mobile charging station the following items are necessary.

  • Adapter

  • Charging pad

  • Rectifier

  • Capacitors

  • Transistors

  • Voltage regulator

  • Charging pad coil

  • High frequency transformer

System Design Review

System design refers to the process of determining whether a project has been done the way it was intended and meets its requirements. It is done after the completion of the systems project.

The Wireless Mobile Charging Station design review was done by looking at the performance of the mobile charging system and checking its performance. During the system design review whereby users were asked questions through the use of questionnaires had the results that Ninety percent of the people who have used this system, found it effective while five percent of them had not tried the system while the remaining five percentages remained hesitant on what to say about the design. The response is represented in the figure below.
