Directions:  Please write a summary paragraph for each of the TWO parts below.  You will write a total of two paragraphs. Before starting the two summaries, please access and review the following links:

Please access one or all of the following links to find ONE story (OR AN IMPORTANT SEGMENT) that interests you or that you find particularly striking.  Read elements of the story, take notes (and/or annotate) and summarize what you read in a paragraph of 15 to 20 sentences.  Be sure to place the title of the story and writer's name above the entry. ALTHOUGH SOME STORIES ARE LONG, MANY ARE SHORT. CHOOSE YOUR STORY ACCORDINGLY.

PART 2 ("VOICES OF A PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES" STORY SUMMARY):

Please read and summarize "James R. Bradley, Letter to Lydia Maria Child," starting at the bottom of 174 and ending at the top of page 176. Take notes (and/or annotate) and summarize what you read in a paragraph of 15 to 20 sentences.  Be sure to place the title of the story and writer's name above the entry.

PART 3 (CAMP WILLIAM PENN -- 10 IMPORTANT SENTENCE-POINTS):
Please read the introduction of the instructor's book about Camp William Penn book (starting on pg. 8) and chapter 1 (starting on pg. 25). Camp William Penn, located in nearby Cheltenham Township, was the first and largest federal facility to train black soldiers during the Civil War from 1863 to 1865.
