Effects Birth Control has on Women
Birth control is a method women use to prevent cases of unwanted pregnancies. There are different methods of birth control for women which include contraceptive injections, contraceptive implants, pills, intrauterine devices, vaginal ring among others. These birth control methods contain estrogen and progestin which work concurrently to stop the natural cycle hormones of the body from functioning (Vincent 24). It, in turn, helps to prevent fertilization in the woman’s body. Birth control methods get associated with some effects that are not too serious.
One of the consequences of birth control includes intermenstrual spotting where a woman experiences vaginal bleeding between her monthly menstruation periods. The effect is common within the first four months after the birth control method is taken. It comes about due to the adjusting of the uterus to acquire a thinner endometrial lining. You may also experience mild nausea which subsides after a short time. Breast tenderness is another effect that women may go through after taking birth control but can be minimized by reducing salt intake as well as wearing a supportive bra. Women may also experience weight gain due to retention of fluid in the breast and hip areas.Headaches are experienced at times due to high doses of hormones in the birth control methods. Other effects may include mood changes, vaginal discharge and missed periods. These effects often vanish after about four months hence are not serious problems (Zorea 51). However, women are recommended to get medical care if the effects are severe and too much to handle.
