Introduction

Amazon inc is an international ecommerce, online based company based in the United states of America. In this regard, this paper will place special emphasis on the strategies that Amazon. as a company can deploy in order to fill out the 5000 vacancies in warehouse supervision, from the best possible pool of qualified applicants. I will also highlight the advantages of each of the strategies, mention the drawbacks of their use and offer suggestions that will ensure correct and successful deployment. The ideal candidate should be able to plan, organize supervise and take part in the daily activities of a warehouse, including training, assigning and supervising warehouse staff. This compilation will therefore focus on a staffing and recruitment strategy laid out for the position of warehouse supervisor. Due to this fact, recruitment and staffing is a human resource function that has strong implications regarding the performances of any organization.

Legal Ramifications

Amazon as a company has strong understanding of the legal rights of the both the organization and the potential employees. Protected groups such those with disability, as well as the legal issues that surround compensation, training, downsizing and even disciplinary action to take, are all covered in tandem with the Equal employment opportunities commission (EEOC). Amazon has already made provisions to address the legal practice of compensation. Based on this same report, company will use this as a competitive advantage by offering 30% more than its rivals for the same position in traditional retail stores. The company will also reimburse 95% of the tuition to its staff members who attend college, regardless of the fact whether the field of study is related to their jobs or not.

Recruitment Plan

According to Richardson (2012), recruitment is the process which encompasses a set of activities and processes deployed to obtain a specified number of qualified people in the right place and time so that an organization can select from this pool to fit both short term and long term requirements, based on a need of skill sets. Recruitment is such an important step because the success of any organization is based on its most important asset, which happens to be its staff. Proper selection of qualified staff will ensure that performance levels are maintained or even elevated because proper skill sets are matched to the needs required.

The main tool that will be used in the recruitment procedure will be a questionnaire. However, factoring in the number of supervisors required, the questionnaire will be accessible through an online portal where interested parties will fill it out. This tool is preferred because it is not time consuming and has a wider reach compared to printing physical documents and distributing it to over 5000 potential candidates. After which, the suitable candidates will be contacted for interviews from the pool selected by the recruitment software.

Recruitment strategies and Processes

Based on the assessment of Armstrong (2009), the recruitment and selection process is embodied in four major stages; defining requirements, attracting candidates, selecting candidates and placing them on the job. Recruitment can be conducted through hiring from existing staff members or through external hire. If the method of recruitment opted for is internal, then the job openings can be advertised by a method called job posting, which is a method of placing the job adverts on manual and electronic platforms, the company newsletter and other such media. Another marketing strategy used is word of mouth which is usually low cost. However, internal recruitment has some draw backs in the sense that it does not produce the number or the quality of personnel required to fill out such positions. In this case, it is recommended that Amazon performs an external hire.

Selection plan

Staffing is a process under human resource management which refers to the filling or occupying of positions in an organization with personnel whose skills and competencies match the requirements of that position. Staffing is of utmost importance in the sense that it prevents potential mismatch of skills to positions, thereby resulting in poor performances. In this sense regard, the skills required for a warehouse supervisory job will dictate that the candidates have sufficient knowledge of warehouse operations. Based on the assessment of Ruisi and Nguyen (2013), the primary function of the human resource arm is to increase the effectiveness and contribution of staff members. Therefore a person with accounting skills cannot be a suitable candidate albeit having competencies. For this particular position the type of assessment deployed will be an online aptitude test, followed by an oral interview for the successful shortlisted candidates.

A preference of a panel interview is ideal. Some of the most effective interviewing techniques that deployed would be the use of open ended questions. They encourage client participation while providing more complete answers to questions. By contrast, this type of interviewing technique takes more time and can result in some irrelevant information. The use of probing questions can also be also beadopted because they are more likely to generate al information required than scripted questions.

Interview Questions
  1. Have you ever managed people before?

  2. What were your responsibilities at your previous management positions?

  3. What was your role in managing inventory levels at your previous facility?

  4. How would you give feedback to an employee who is not performing as expected?

  5. How would you go about communicating with a senior manager?

Conclusion

In human resource management, new approaches to the recruitment techniques are constantly being applied. In many areas the strategies might be manual but automated methods have more of a say since they provide mechanisms that are more time efficient and cost effective. Irrespective of the strategies selected for use, the objective of recruitment remains that, the most qualified individuals, who are committed to achieving the organizational goals will fill the position of warehouse supervisors and maximize the effectiveness of Amazon as a company.
