1Introduction

The collegiate education sector plays a role in making sure that the school system runs smoothly and can provide quality services to the country. There are many different systems in place that are being used by the sector ensure that the best and quality education is given to scholars in the learning institutions, a few being in-class and online learning. Students that learn online do not meet their tutors, while those who sit in classes and are taught face to face by their tutors. This has brought many differences driving wedges between learning styles. The problem that the collegiate education system has is that scholars who attend classes and have face to face teaching pay less per credit hour than online classes. This causes students to choose how they learn based off of pricing, and not their preferences. The problem we intend on researching is eliminating the tuition differences between online and face-to-face classes.

Methods

The methods of research and data collection we plan to use include surveys, online searches, word-of-mouth, book findings, and interviews. Information regarding this topic is easily accessible on academic websites, so we’d get our information mainly from online sources including: wku.edu/bursar/tuition_fees and wku.edu/bursar/costsheet. We would also interview and get information from resident and international students about the tuition difference between face-to-face classes and online classes. Some places we might visit to conduct surveys include: Northeast Hall, Honors College and International Center, and the Downing Student Union. We would use the surveys to test whether students would be more willing to take online classes if there wasn’t a price difference between online learning and in-class learning.

Procedures

Once our project is approved, we will begin collecting information on the exact differences between online and face to face, as well as connect those to the varying tuition rates between in state, out of state, international and online students. Once we have found the differences between the different types of students and classes, we will begin looking into why online classes and face to face classes don’t cost the same amount. We will research potential factors such as technology, transportation and convenience. These factors will be important in deciding the cost differential, so finding weak points in the reasoning will power out argument. After we have decided what points we are going to dispute, we will create a presentation and meet with the President and the Presidents council in order pitch our final idea to eliminate the cost difference between online and face to face classes.

Resources

We do not need any resources at this time.

Conclusion

After the research and the findings, we speculate that in order to eliminate tuition differences between online and face-to-face classes, the education system will have to be in the position to ensure that the two systems are one in the same, meaning there will be no price difference or learning gaps. By going through our research, we will find that online classes are more expensive because of technological advances, convenience, and frankly because they can. There is no reason for there to be a price gap between the two, thereby forcing students to choose one or the other, which should not be encouraged. Through our discoveries, we conclude that by eliminating price differences between learning styles, more students will sign up for classes because of more options class-wise. That in turn will make up for the price differentials for the university to operate.
