How to do a Webquest (Online Course)

  1. Select a Topic: Post your topic of choice on the Webquest Topic forum on Moodle for instructor approval.

  2. Create an outline: The outline includes a-d listed below and is worth 30pts. This is a separate document from your ppt presentation.

  3. Your Webquest ppt presentation should include:

  1. Title: Can be a working title that may change throughout the process.

  2. Introduction: Write a shore introductory paragraph to ‘set the stage’ for your Webquest. (For example: “You are a detective trying to identify the mysterious plot.”) Provide the readers with some background information to orient them before taking them on the Webquest.

  3. Question or Task: Determine a central question to answer or a task that is achievable within the time frame allotted for the project. The question should be interesting to you, and most important, it should be relevant to the course. The question can take the form of a guiding question for your reader or it can also be a request for your reader to complete some type of task within the Webquest, etc.

  4. List Your Sources: Create a document listing each internet address, the title of the site, and a brief description of what the site includes. As your list increases in size organize into topics and subtopics as they relate to your Webquest. You must have at least six bibliographic sources; 3 internet, 2 journal articles/newspapers, 1 book. The three internet sites in your required list of six must all be different. (For example, two of your internet sources included in your six cannot be from Wikipedia, or Youtube.) You may use as many sources as you would like, but just remember that you have to meet the requirements listed above for six of them.

  5. The Process: Develop a series of webpages (or powerpoint slides) that answer the question or explain the task. (continued on next page…)

  1. At the completion of your Webquest presentation you will turn in:

-Webquest ppt presentation (100pts): Includes parts a-e above.(Please take a look at the webquest example posted on the syllabus and the student webquests on Moodle for examples.)

-Outline (30pts): This is a document briefly outlining parts a-d above.

-Summary (10pts): Write a paragraph summary of what you have accomplished or learned by completing a Webquest.
