Research proposal on the role of social media in enhancing political awareness in Saudi Arabia

Introduction

This study will focus on the role played by social media in enhancing political awareness in Saudi Arabia. Also, it aims to study the relationship between social media and political awardee. The use of social media in politics including Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram has dramatically changed the way people communicate with the world and how people interact with their leaders. citizens can now interact with the leaders and also they can discussion any issues effect their life . (Reuter. 2015)..

Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp have become instrumental in organizing campaigns. People with similar political interests and activists forms groups in those platforms then they can easily share news and political information such as political seminars with one another. These platforms are also used to convince people about their political stand

Literature review

This study does not only look at the impact of social media in enhancing political awareness, but it also investigates how deep the projects are. The theoretical approach guiding this research is that the ability of social media to speedily spread and share any information that facilitates political awareness. Basing their arguments and theory on the political movements and changes that have occurred in the countries in the Northern part of Africa, the two authors extend their findings to other countries in Africa (Muller, 2011).

A sample size is a small number of African countries where their investigations detected a threshold impact of social media in various socio-political changes. Of particular interest are the revolutionary movements that took place in African nations such as Egypt and Tunisia. One significant finding is that African countries that have embraced technology over a longer period have citizens with better or greater levels of political awareness. The Arab Spring was a good example of political change via social media.

Social media had a lot of impact on politics and elections. Samples were done, and the methodologies that were used were the survey and online observation. A total of 110 participants were interviewed of which 107 were male, and just three were female. Because of this enormous disparity like the sample size, it is hard to investigate gender as it was a factor of biases in the research.

On the other hand, an online observation was done on various pro-political activities that took place in different social media platforms especially Facebook. The campaigns that were conducted on Facebook during these elections and how useful they emerged were also observed. One of the main findings is that, because youths engage more in politics in a virtual world than in real world, social media had a lot of impact in the politics of Tamul Nadu in 2011( Kenagavel,2011)..

(This part is good to use in literature review )

Several studies have been done on the impact of social media, but research haven’t been done to show the motives of social media and its effect on development of political awareness in Saudi Arabia, and due to that gap The following are the research questions are proposed;

Research question 1: what are the areas of use of social media for Saudi students?

Research question 2: what are the motives of using social media for Saudi students ?

Research question 3: To what degree social media affects the development of political awareness?

Research question 4: Do Saudi students who study abroad shear and discussion their opinion about political issue via social media ?

Method

Method to be used in the proposed research. is online survey (questionnaire) it will be 25 questions and answering format will be Likert Scales; participants will be 200 Saudi students (scholarships) from the age of 20 to 30 The reasons for choosing this approach are the desire to study the subject in depth, to pay attention to the adoption of advanced technology and the internet and students interest in these sites of social networking.
