SECTION III: SAP APPEAL
Please explain what circumstances caused you to fall below academic standards. You may attach any supporting documentation you think could have bearing on the University’s decision. (Limit 150 words)
Since my initial decision to pursue my educational endeavors at Kaplan, I have experienced a series of personal trials – cared for my elderly grandmother with severe dementia, grieved her passing, geographically relocated, and juggled a promotion in my current profession. Additionally, my out of pocket contribution nearly tripled; thus, I had to work more to compensate for the financial burden. Ultimately, the amount of time I pledged professionally detracted from my ability to find professional/educational/personal harmony in my schedule. Since December, I have earned a considerable increase in wages while maintaining a standard work week instead of the excessive 6-7 day schedule I previously held. I have restructured my financial budget and personal goals, prioritizing my education and successful completion of my degree. If granted permission to return, I am confident that I will be a successful graduate student returning for a Master’s program in the future.
Documentation about employment has been included. Documentation regarding the death of grandmother (Mary Louise Lundquist), and documentation of geographical relocation (Washington, NJ to Whippany, NJ) are also included.
Are you able to provide supporting documentation? X Yes No
What is your action plan to ensure you will be successful if allowed to return? Please include specific identifiable steps for improvement. (150 words).
I have developed a feasible action plan to support my return to Kaplan. Since my departure, I have worked diligently to amend my professional schedule to allow for more flexibility to cater to the demands of my educational career. Including commute time, work accounts for 42 hours of time weekly. Adjustments have been made to allow a minimum of two hours per day dedicated to school. My reading and discussion questions will be completed within a Tuesday-Thursday time-frame. Additional research, studying for exams, and assignments will be completed within a Friday-Sunday time-frame. Mondays will be used to wrap up any loose ends, or get a head-start on the following week. This plan budgets 23 hours of time for studies with room for additional time to be added on weekends if necessary. It is not so much work that it is overwhelming, and still allows time for personal life.

What are your career goals if allowed to return and complete your degree? (Limit 100 words)
I plan to earn a Bachelor’s degree and continue my education with graduate work in the field of occupational therapy. With a history of volunteer and professional work for a local behaviorist and professional experience as a massage therapist, I hope to apply my knowledge and training in the field of occupational therapy specifically providing care to gifted children with special needs and circumstances (developmental delays, ASD, injury rehabilitation, and behavioral disorders). A Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Kaplan will mark a milestone on my path to enriching the lives of my community.
Thank you for your consideration.
