IS THERE ANY REATIONSHIP BETWEEN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND GENDER?

Both men and women can be victims of domestic violence. However, recent research and statistics have indicated that domestic violence is mostly a gendered problem that disproportionately affects women. The project proposal is going to establish the relationship between domestic violence and gender

According to Lang and Bobic (2002), domestic violence experienced by women is different in severity, consequence, and nature from the violence experienced by men. The severity and intensity typically used by people are more painful and more likely to include threats, physical injuries, and harassment. Female victims of domestic violence are more likely to experience more serious psychological injuries compared to their male counterparts and become more afraid of their partners. Additionally, studies have shown that women are four times likely to encounter potentially fatal domestic violence and five times likely to report they fear for the lives. It should be stressed that women who have been found to be violent do this for self-defense, unlike the men who attack (Hurtado, 2014).

In the recent years, I have heard of mostly female partners being killed in a relationship. The media has played a major role in reporting this problem. I have also had the cases where the violence has lead to substance abuse or self-harm on the victims. Sometimes physical abuse can make a person commit a criminal act.

The three research questions are:

• Is there any Relationship between Domestic Violence and Gender

• Is Domestic Violence is directly proportional to the sex and age of victims?

• Can Evidence Based program that supports women economic empowerment reduce Domestics violence?

In my opinion, there is a relationship between domestic violence and gender. Most of the victims of gender violence are women who are always abused by their intimate partners. Younger women in their adolescence are more susceptible to domestic violence compared to older women. In general, both older and younger females are victims of domestic violence compared to their male counterparts. Moreover, women who from poor economic background are the most susceptible to domestic violence
