Football

Football is a name that is used to refer to several kinds of sports which involve players kicking a ball with their foot to score a goal though the playing rules may be different in varying degrees. The most renowned football sport is soccer also known as association football or football. Other football sports include the American football, rugby league, Canadian football, rugby union, Australian Rules football and Gaelic football. Football is referred to many people as an interesting sport. Football is a sport that contains numerous audience throughout the world and the audience are called football fans or supporters (Hendricks, 2010). Football fans or supporters are a group of people who watch football on the game pitches or through the media and some are ready to sacrifice time to cheer or watch their favorite teams. In this paper the football sport will be discussed and the roles players play offense, defense and special teams.

Players or positions in football have roles to play. Player roles include offense, defense and special teams which are differentiated throughout the game. Offense is a position that team players are in possession of the ball. The job of the team members is to pass the ball towards their opponent's end zone to score by either scoring a goal or a touchdown through the score depends on the game. The basic positions in offense include center, running back, center, tight end, wide receiver, left and right tackle, right and left guard, fullback and tight end. The quarterback leads the team; the center player's job is to snap the ball to the team leader and the running back runs with the ball. The fullback protects the quarterback by pass-blocking, the wide receiver catches the ball and eludes the defenders and the tight end is a blocker and receiver. The left and right guards' job is to carry the ball, block the ball as well as block the ball while the right and left tackle the offensive line outer members.

The defense is a position in which the team's job is to prevent their opponent from scoring. In the defense the team begins by playing from scrimmage, the team tries to force the offense team to turn over the ball. The basic positions that players play include the defensive linemen, linebackers, cornerbacks and safeties. The safeties role is to avert a long run or long pass through playing behind the other defense players, the linebackers contain cover receivers and runners and their job is to back up linemen. The linemen are after pressurizing the quarterback through tackling him or her before they release the ball and the counter backs are tasked with blocking passes from quarterbacks by preventing wide receivers from getting hold of the ball.

The special team comprises of the offensive line, the team’s kickers as well as players that run down the football pitch to tackle the returner. The special team is a unit which is on the pitch during kicking plays. The offensive and defensive players play the same roles while on the special teams. Defensive players play the role of tackling in the special team while the offensive players block the other players, the kicking game also contains other unique roles. The returner aims at catching the ball and returning it as far as he or she can, the punter's job is to free-kick the ball when the team is unable to pass the ball down the pitch and the placekicker job is to kick the ball towards the other team to commence the game or kick the ball to score.

In a nutshell, football is a fascinating sport that includes various sports and it dies not only mean soccer. The players in the game have alternating roles in the field during the game. The roles include special teams, offense and defense and the roles alternate throughout the game. Football is watched throughout the world by its fans and supporters (Brown, 2013). The fans may be after supporting random or specific teams in the sport though real fans are known as supporters. To win the game the team players must kick the ball towards the goalposts of their opponents or through touchdowns.
