Fallacies Quiz: Dirty Tricks 21 -3 5 Read from The Thinker’s Guide to Fallacies textbook, and take n otes on the following Fallacies: Dirty Trick s (DT) # 21 -35. Bring all of your notes to our next class meeting . We will use them in whole class discussions and/or activities. Written Responses Defining fallacies (85 words or more per Fallacy) : After reviewing and taking notes on DT #s 21 -35 , choose four fallacies to work with. For each fallacy that you choose to work with, provide a definition and explain what they are and how they work, citing at least twice from the textbook as you explain each fallacy and providing at least one example from the book . Examples beyond the book (65 words or more per Fallacy) : For each fallacy that you choose tow work with, skip a line or two after your definition/explanation and example(s) from the textbook and provide at least one concrete, specific example from outside your textbook that illustrates the fallacy for your audie nce (classmates and professor). Outside the textbook includes citing examples from research (using MLA Format) or from personal experience s and/ or observation s. You can also create your own examples and scenarios by using your creativity and imagination where you explain how people use fallacies in certain situations . This quiz is designed to invite you to read and gain insight on various fallacies and how they work. This will help you identify fallacies in your own thinking and that of others and als o refute and avoid them when necessary. You will also be able to recognize fallacies at work in our reading assignments and in the research you do in the semester. Don’t be surprised if you start running into fallacies in the environments you find yourself in and beyond this class, for example, through the media, culture, at work, at school, at home, in your community etc… etc… After submitting your quiz online via B lackboard, remember to also print it and bring it alongside your notes to our class meetings for use in our whole class discussions.
