Best Practices Related to Homelessness

Various approaches have been put in place to best manage the problem of homelessness in the country and other parts of the world. First, the governments of various countries have come up with income and affordable housing supports with the aim of averting homelessness and restoring residential stability in the city (Suzanne, 15). Moreover, the governments of different states are working together with other organizations to provide to provide support and facilities to the homeless people. Some of the additional transitional facilities which should be developed by the government are; case management, child care, health care, treatment programs, and parenting support can help in combating this issue. The main aim is to assist in improving the life of homeless people well as their families.

Moreover, the governments, as well as other non-governmental institutions, should have up with many programs with the aim of supporting and facilitating the homeless people. Some of the most common programs that have proofed to be effective are the housing fund and re-housing, the pedestrian villages and the transition housing support (Robertson, 251). These programs aim at the homeless people in general; the programs are targeted to specific subpopulations which are set by the nature of their health issues, their specific locations, like suburban or rural areas, or the demographic characteristics that require specializes approaches (Robertson, 251). However, even when such programs are provided to offer specialized services to the homeless people, the coordination of the government and other service providers is essential. The objective should be to enable the homeless people to be in a position to access a broad range of housing as well as other services that already exist hence resolving this issue of homelessness.

Also, homeless people who are faced by particular vulnerabilities like the young pregnant women, older homeless people who have psychotic disorders, and women with severe mental illness, have been provided with transitional programs or supporting safe spaces (Cauce, Ana Mari, et al. 457). They have proofed to be very effective interim steps towards combating homelessness in the society. The programs also offer education to the general public bout the homeless people and the issue of homelessness and help the public develop a perception that the issue affects ordinary people like them. While the government can be in a position to provide funding the homeless people, other works like motivating the homeless people should be taken by the ordinary members of the society. The people who are aware of the problem of homelessness might help solve the issue by volunteering, while the others who are not informed might be encouraged to make donations of useful goods or make financial contributions. This can encourage many well-wishers and volunteers to continue working to boost the lives of the homeless people through the provision of shelter, food, clothing and healthcare facilities. Therefore, emphasizing the significant role that can be played by the members of the public, and while recognizing the wider publicity about the issue of homelessness, and particularly how the issue affects the young generation in the community, it would be of great use. However, there is will always be a need for the government in every nation to provide the housing programs with funds so that sufficient support services for the homeless people, as well as other preventative measures for this issue, can be carried out.

Proposed Intervention Related To The Issue Of Homelessness

The best initiative that can be used to combat homelessness is the Housing first-initiative. Housing first is an approach that can be used in housing the homeless people who have particular issues like mental illness, those with chronic diseases and substance use disorders. The initiative uses a consumer-based approach to support the need of the clients as well as encouraging them to create and implement their goals while housing clients immediately with no preconditions except agreeing to comply with the standard lease agreement.

Even if all the homeless people and families were given enough money that they can use to pay for their houses, the issue of homelessness would not end. For instance, if the addicts in recovery and those that have mild mental illness were moved to supportive housings, there would persist in a core group of people with severe mental illness and hard-core drug addicts who need a place where they can live. Since it is cheaper to house the homeless individuals with these type of cases than treating them in the streets continually, then it makes sense create facilities for the hardest people to house. Since it would be expensive to build up such facilities, the best strategy that can be used by the governments is purchasing old hotels. The hotel rooms would then be converted to housings where human health professionals ca offer closely monitored facilities, which tolerate discrete drug use and provide health services through in-house mental health and medical services. In the end, those who come out of the facilities successfully can be housed using the housing programs hence combating the global crisis of homelessness.
