A current fashion event is the Paris Fashion Week 2017 held in March. Paris Fashion Week is a fashion event which is held biannually in Paris, France whereby a number of the top fashion designers, brands and houses such as Chanel, Luis Vuitton and Versace, and the rest of the world come together in order to make their presentations. The entire event lasts a whole week. The designs are displayed on runway shows to the media and cutomers.It is arguably one of the largest organized events that brings together those working in the fashion industry globally (Khan, 2017).

Paris Fashion week 2017 featured designs for both males and females cutting across all ages. As seen in other fashion events, Paris also was not left in featuring designs that cut across all body shapes and sizes. The styles displayed cut across official looks for the working man and woman to more casual looks ,some are for the modern generation such as street ,urban and funk styles while other have a more cultural background or heritage attached to them (Khan, 2017). Designers draw their inspirations from what is current, what is expected in the future as well as history. The key is to make something that will catch the eye as well as make sense.

Paris fashion week is relevant because it gives already established designers as well as the upcoming fashion designers whether young or old, the opportunity to showcase their designs and ideas to the rest of the world. It is a platform where many careers have been founded as we can see thousands of the youth being afforded the opportunity to work in the fashion industry either as models, stylists, stage directors, events hosts and many other categories thereby being a major source of employment for those gifted with such skills and talents. For those who like keeping up with current trends, it also affords them the opportunity to see what is out there so that they can go buy the clothes (Kim et al, 2017).

Paris Fashion Week also serves as a source of inspiration for other upcoming and established fashion designers, as it sparks ideas and creativity based o what has been showcased, therefore they can also be able to come up with their own amazing designs (Smith, 2017). Other that what it sells, the Paris Fashion week also serves as a tool for creating awareness to some of the issues that are facing the world such hunger, racisms, gender and sexual discrimination as well as body image and appearance issues. We see the issue being at the forefront of such fashion events whereby people of different colour, body and appearance are working together in the fashion industry. It unites everyone towards championing for such causes across the world (Paccione, 2017).

This topic relates to the lecture in fashion designing, marketing and management, in that it is able to give a student an idea of how the real world of fashion operates. It is not just about being a good designer, marketer or manager but how well one is able fit in with the best of the very best. Fashion events do provide an opportunity for designers to mingle and by doing that it provides one with the opportunity to see what is out there or what is current. By being exposed to such kid of an environment, it is possible that the students mind can become expound in terms of imagination ad creativity. Some of the things discussed in lectures become more practical and therefore easy to comprehend.

In my opinion, at the end of the day it helps one achchieve that mark or grade that makes them a better student. By going through the current events one understands what it takes to plan or organize a successful fashion event. In some instances, the student will also realize that the fashion industry, in this case the fashion events; do serve a greater purpose than just being about showcasing of clothes and talents ( Paccione, 2017). Such events also help bring about some of the issues facing the world such as poverty, discrimination and so on because we now see people with disabilities, different body shapes and skin conditions being featured at these events. In doing so it also provides charity/assistance through raising of funds for charitable foundations. When a student sees this, he or she therefore becomes conscious about the choices they would wish to make as well as the direction one would wish to take when it comes to the fashion industry.
