Module 2 Discussion 2

Your two (2) posts should be at least 100 words. Since this discussion board does not have a word count, you may want to type your response in a Word document and then copy and paste it directly into your reply. You must also respond to two classmates' posts with response of at least 50 words. I will not be quite as strict about the word count for these replies, but "I agree" or "I disagree" is not acceptable.

Read the following work:

Ch. VII in Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass

Answer two (2) of the following questions and identify which question you are responding to in your answer:

1. Describe how Douglass began to learn to read (and later write). Use evidence from the narrative to support your position.

2. As Douglass's reading skills grew and he read more documents, how did his attitude toward his enslavers change? Why did Douglass sometimes feel that "learning to read had been a curse rather than a blessing"? Use evidence from the narrative to support your answers.

3. Why did the word "abolition" come to have greater importance to Douglass? Explain your answer with evidence from the narrative.

4. How and why did Douglass's mistress change in attitude and action after she was forbidden to teach him to read? Support your position with evidence from the tale.

5. Identify any of the following plot structure elements in this chapter of Douglass's book. Be specific with your answers.
