Carlson, Scoot. “Why Colleges Need to Embrace the Apprenticeship”. The Chronicle of Higher Education. 4. June. 2017. Web. 27. June. 2017. <http://www.chronicle.com/article/Why-Colleges-Need-to-Embrace/240248?cid=wcontentgrid_19_2>

Carlson, reports on the significance of colleges adopting apprenticeship programs. This source focuses on the issues faced by students thus making it a relevant source which provides data on the subject matter. I will use this resource to show logos to analyze the value addition of college apprenticeships and at the same time use pathos to signify the intrinsic value of apprenticeships which imparts students with positive attitudes and core skills required for the workforce.

Colleges Need to Embrace the Apprenticeship.” National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, 2017. Web. 27. June. 2017. <https://www.nasfaa.org/news-item/12266/Why_Colleges_Need_to_Embrace_the_Apprenticeship>

The National Association of Student Financial Aid (NASFAA), cites Noel Gisenburg, chief executive of a plastic company who asserts that apprenticeship should have been the focus initially instead of just emphasizing on a four-year college education. This site is relevant because it involves the expert opinions of individuals in the workforce industry on the relevance of apprenticeships in colleges. I will use this source to showcase the ethos on the impact of undertaking apprenticeship by college students.

Holmquist, A. “Apprenticeships Signal Value Better Than Schooling.” Foundation for Economic Education.05. Oct.2016.Web.27. June.2017. <https://fee.org/articles/apprenticeships-signal-value-better-than-schooling/>

This source provides a clear discussion of the significance of apprenticeship over schooling in terms of success indicators such as professional opportunities and the accompanying income benefits. The benefits of apprenticeship are outlined which allows the users to relate to them logically to the real-world scenarios. However, the content of the article fails to provide data or statistics to back its theoretical explanation. Instead it offers a link in form of a report. I will use this resource to show pathos in terms of the intrinsic value of apprenticeship to students.

Merrit, Roy. “Student Internships.” EBSCO Research Starters.2008. <https://www.ebscohost.com/uploads/imported/thisTopic-dbTopic-1072.pdf>

This essay discusses the advantages of student internships in terms of the appropriate curriculum and practical applications. This source contributes to the subject matter by providing an in-depth outline of, first, the curriculum in terms of design and development for developing and implementing student internship programs. Secondly, it highlights on important aspects including, student placement, learning environments, instruction, student learning, evaluation and assessment and educational outcomes. These concepts act as a guide for classroom teaching and student learning. Even though the source does to portray logos because of lack of clear statistics, I will use it to show ethos because the author cites credible and relevant literature by scholarly personalities.

Steinberg, Ayres Sarah. “5 Reasons Expanding Apprenticeships Will Benefit Millennials.” Center for American Progress, 2, Dec. 2013.Web.27. June.2017.

<https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/economy/news/2013/12/02/79872/5-reasons-expanding-apprenticeships-will-benefit-millennials/.>

This source outlines and discusses logical reasons on the positive impacts of apprenticeships on millenials. Each of the five reasons are clearly explained so as to give ground to the rationale of the matter at hand. I will use this information to justify the topic, as it diligently explains, with the backing of credible sources and statistics on the critical importance of apprenticeships. Therefore, I shall us the logos since it provides the statistics. However, it would have been a more reliable source had it applied ethos, since it will allow the audience to further relate with real life scenarios.

UMBC President Profile.” CBS 60 Minutes.2012. Web.27. June.2017. <https://vimeo.com/32059728.>

This video source portrays the personal and professional life history of Freeman Hrabowski, the President of UMBC, who is one of the pioneers in promoting science, engineering and mathematics in the institution. The case study of UMBC reveals the impact of full engagement of students in research and learning which inspires them to solve real life problems which is the key purpose of education and training. I will use this resource to show ethos on the importance of partaking interest in personal development of students as this encourages them and gives them confidence to be innovative and be leaders. I will also use this source to show pathos to showcase the relevance of value-driven and person-centered leadership in educational institutions which have an impact on the personal, academic and professional lives of students. These attributes are an extension to the importance of having apprenticeship programs in colleges.
