Hello,
Attached is my handiwork.
My first Compound Inequality was an And:
-2 < -1-4x < 12
First I added 1 to all three portions.
-1 < -4x < 13
Then I divided all three by -4, which reverses the signage.
1/4 > x > -13/4 (-13/4 reduces to -3 1/4)
Which means x = (-3 1/4 , 1/4), in that order because we read the line graph from left to right.
This And expression means that the variable has a possibility to be between -3 1/4 and 1/4, which is proven by the intersection on the line graph.
My second inequality was an Or expression. I know this to be true because the word Or is included in the expression, which tells me that the solution can be A , B or both.
2x-7 ≤ 5 or 5-2x > 3
I treated each set individually. I added 7 on the left and subtracted 5 on the right side.
2x ≤ 5 or -2x > -2
Next, I divided each side by 2 and -2 respectively, reversing my sign because of the -2.
x ≤ 6 or x<1
Then after a quick linear graphical artification, I concluded x = (-∞,6].
Hard bracket because of the ≤.
Neither of my problems included a union because both graphs had an intersection and no unused solutions in between.
Thanks!
