Abortion

The issue which will be discussed in this essay is whether abortion should be legalized or should not be made legal. Abortion is a very critical issue since it deals with the morality of the society and the well-being of the mothers and children. It is an issue which touches on human life and the complications which are related to abortion. It is, therefore, to be factual and one must be open minded to ensure that different perspectives and viewpoints have been considered to ensure that the right decision has been made. My stand on this is that abortion should not be legalized. There are many reasons which can be given to support the fact that abortion is bad for individuals as well as for the community. Abortion is a crime since it is fundamentally taken the life of a human being. The decision to abort means that a human being who is unborn is killed (Mooney, 2014). Abortion leads to psychological damage for the mother since they go through a lot. The act of abortion should therefore not be legalized.

There are many reasons which are given to support the fact that abortion should be legalized. One of the premises is that modern abortion techniques are highly advanced and they cause no health implications for the mothers. The second pro reason is that women have the right to have control over their bodies and they should be given a chance to decide whether to carry out an abortion or not. The third reason is that legalizing abortion gives women access to legal, professionally performed abortions which reduces cases of maternal injury and deaths which can be caused by unsafe and illegal abortion practices. These reasons are given by people who strongly believe that abortion should be legalized which are conflicting points to my viewpoints.

The first viewpoint that there is current advanced technology which will ensure that abortions are carried out perfectly is an interesting one. This is because the view focuses on an important area where the health of mothers is paramount. This view is therefore helpful in ensuring that mothers are safe. If I believed this view, I would be failing to acknowledge the well-being of the child in addition the morality of taking a life and focusing on only mother’s well-being. This idea will, therefore, be true if life was not considered to begin at conception hence the idea cannot be used to support legalization of abortion. The second viewpoint is that women have the right over their bodies and they can choose whether to abort or not. This view is helpful since it considers human rights which are an important aspect of this subject. However, if I chose to believe this point of view, I would ignore the right of the unborn child and the morality of abortion. Also, human rights have a limit. This view can only be true under the condition that the child has no right to life. Similarly, women should also be responsible for their bodies and control conception instead of considering abortion (Corrigan, 2012).

The third premise is that making abortion legal reduces cases of maternal injury since the process will be carried out professionally and in legalized institutions which make it's safer than the unlegalized processes. This premise is interesting since it means that if a problem has wrong consequences if carried out illegally, it should be legalized. This is wrong, and no action can be justified by this fact. If I believed his view, I would notice that illegal actions have negative consequences and this should never be a reason to make those actions legal. This view can only be accepted under the condition that abortion had no other negative consequences if it was made legal.
