Implementation of an Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) requires proper identification of strategy for purposes of identifying the steps and the overall structure. The guiding strategy for this specific ERP system implementation is the integration of various departments in the school into a unitary application network. Efficiency of IT and management functions is the main goal of this ERP implementation (Velcu, 2010).

Rationale

Rationale for buying and implementing the ERP system within the school setup in mainly for efficiency as indicated at the strategy setting. One way of attaining integration efficiency is the automation and coherence of inter-departmental workflows. This coherence is important for proper tracking of activities within the school. Additionally, the ERP implementation will save costs that would have instead been used to purchase and maintain different software systems at individual departments.

An ERP system is also necessary for centralization of storage of the school data. Under this third rationale it is assumed that the ERP system will be for managing data on the employees, students, curriculum, suppliers and teachers. This assumption is based on the resources necessary for running the school. Assuming that departments initially lacked collaboration leading to bureaucracies, the ERP system will be resourceful in collaborating departmental functions.

Implementation

Regarding the implementation steps, it is assumed that the school has an existing networking system and is looking for operational efficiency.

  1. The first step is strategic planning which is important for assigning the team in charge of the implementation. This is important for bringing together the necessary skills.

  2. Secondly, it is important to review the procedure for purposes of identifying the capabilities.

  3. Thirdly, inputting data and cleaning up the school data providing ERP resources (Maguire, Ojiako & Said, 2010).

  4. Fourthly, testing and training of personnel within the school departments. Implementing by going live and evaluating is the final step.

Conclusion

In summary, The ERP system implementation will use to integrate various departments in the school into a unitary application network. Therefore, ERP Implementation in school follows actually application of the ERP system and evaluation for the constant ERP improvement.
